First Posted: 1/7/2014 WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Wyoming man who drove himself to a hospital in New Jersey for a gunshot wound he suffered in a Sherman Hills apartment building was charged Tuesday with a drug offense.
Lashawn Burgman, 31, of Fifth Street, was charged by city police with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He was arraigned by District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $20,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint and a search warrant affidavit:
Police received a call from Newark, N.J., police on Dec. 27 regarding two people being treated for gunshot wounds at East Orange Hospital.
Burgman and Catherine Thomas said they suffered gunshot wounds in an accidental shooting inside Thomas&#8217; apartment at the Sherman Hills apartment complex. Burgman pulled a handgun from his waistband and the firearm accidentally discharged a round striking Burgman in the leg and Thomas in the foot, court records say.
City police obtained a search warrant for Thomas&#8217; apartment allegedly finding marijuana and a crystal substance in a men&#8217;s shaving bag, according to court records.
Police said they found a can of carpet cleaner with a false bottom, which is used to hide illegal drugs, inside the apartment.
