First Posted: 3/10/2014 CLEARWATER, Fla. &#8212; Brandon Beachy became the second straight Atlanta starting pitcher forced to leave early, exiting the Braves&#8217; 8-1 win over Philadelphia on Monday because of tightness around his right elbow.
Beachy had been scheduled to throw four innings. He left after pitching two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks.
The 27-year-old righty has been limited to 18 starts in the last two seasons while battling elbow ailments.
On Sunday, projected opening day starter Kris Medlen grabbed his right elbow and walked in the middle of the fourth against the Mets. The Braves later said he had a strained right forearm and would undergo further tests.
Jason Heyward homered on Cliff Lee&#8217;s second pitch of the game, sending a drive over the fence and beyond the palm trees on the concourse at Bright House Field. It was Heyward&#8217;s third homer.
Atlanta&#8217;s Dan Uggla hit his first home run.
Orioles 7, Pirates 6
BRADENTON, Fla. &#8212; Russell Martin hit his fourth home run of a torrid spring training Monday, but Steve Pearce and Michael Almanzar each hit two-run homers to lead the Baltimore Orioles.
Martin singled and hit a two-run drive off Orioles starter Chris Tillman. In six games this spring, Martin is 8 for 15 with nine RBIs. He did not hit a home run in three of his previous four spring trainings with the Pirates, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Steve Clevenger hit a solo home run off Pirates starter Jay Jackson.
Tillman worked 3 1-3 innings and allowed five runs on five hits. He struck out four and hit a batter.
Marlins 11, Mets 1
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. &#8212; Giancarlo Stanton hit a long home run for the second straight day, a two-run drive off Jack Leathersich in the seventh inning that hit the top of a practice field behind the left-field wall during the Miami Marlins&#8217; rout of the New York Mets.
Reed Johnson went 5 for 5 for the Marlins, and Ed Lucas was 2 for 4 with a two-run triple.
Bartolo Colon made his exhibition debut for the Mets and allowed three runs and five hits in four innings with one walk and one strikeout. Signed to a $20 million, two-year contract during the offseason, Colon gave up Lucas&#8217; triple followed by Jake Marisnick&#8217;s RBI groundout.
Red Sox 6, Rays 1
FORT MYERS, Fla. &#8212; Jon Lester allowed one hit over three scoreless innings in his delayed first spring training start and David Ortiz hit his first home run of the exhibition season as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lester pitched 248 innings last year in the regular and postseason combined, and the Red Sox wanted to bring him along slowly this spring training. He struck out four and walked one against the Rays.
Ortiz homered in the third on the first pitch from reliever Steve Geltz, and Mike Napoli added a solo homer off Erik Bedard in the sixth.
Evan Longoria hit a solo homer on the first pitch from reliever Chris Capuano in the fourth.
Cubs 3, Giants 2
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. &#8212; Matt Cain pitched five perfect innings for the San Francisco Giants, but the Chicago Cubs rallied.
The right-hander, who will be the Giants&#8217; No. 2 starter behind left-hander Madison Bumgarner during the regular season, threw 59 pitches and struck out seven.

JUPITER, Fla. &#8212; Two-time AL MVP Miguel Cabrera hit his first two home runs of spring training and AL Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer struck out five in 4 2-3 scoreless innings for the Detroit Tigers.

PHOENIX &#8212; Chris Sale breezed into the fifth inning with two-hit ball shortly after being chosen the White Sox&#8217;s opening-day starter, and Chicago beat the Milwaukee Brewers.

PEORIA, Ariz. &#8212; Robinson Cano returned from a four-game absence after a root canal procedure and went 3 for 3 as a split squad of Seattle Mariners lost to the Kansas City Royals.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. &#8212; Collin Cowgill&#8217;s two-run homer off Trevor Bauer highlighted a three-run fifth inning that carried the Los Angeles Angels over the Cleveland Indians.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. &#8212; Andrew Cashner threw four more scoreless innings in the San Diego Padres&#8217; win over the Colorado Rockies.

SURPRISE, Ariz. &#8212; Yu Darvish pitched five positive innings and Jurickson Profar homered as the Texas Rangers beat the Cincinnati Reds.
