Bear Creek Twp. to probe speed bump problems

First Posted: 8/26/2014 The news and social media are full of negative stories concerning the Wilkes-Barre; but there are people quietly working hard to move our city forward. One of these people is District A Councilman George Brown.
George spends countless hours working not only for his constituents in District A, but also working to ensure Wilkes-Barre once again becomes the Diamond City we all remember. He is willing to meet with individual residents regarding specific needs and tries very hard to resolve these issues in cooperation with other city offices and departments. Recently, he helped to resolve an issue of a neglected property in my neighborhood by coordinating with the proper city office and the homeowner.
George holds regular town halls at which residents hear information and can ask questions of both Wilkes-Barre and Luzerne County representatives. He attends various Crime Watch meetings each month, providing useful information and addressing concerns regarding neighborhood safety.
Working with the District A Fund and other groups, George has been instrumental in efforts to distribute American flags on Flag Day, sponsor free electronics recycling, implement needed updates to area parks, and bring together community members through the &#8220;Party in the Park&#8221; at Miner Park. This spring, working with the Wilkes-Barre Department of Public Works and area college students, George helped to clean the winter dirt along Carey Avenue, Old River Road and other streets in South Wilkes-Barre. His example encouraged residents to continue this cleaning effort along a number of side streets.
The next time you hear more bad news coming out of the city of Wilkes-Barre, I ask you to remember there are people in Wilkes-Barre like George Brown. Lastly, I challenge you when you hear people going to great lengths bashing our city, follow George Brown&#8217;s example and try to do some good for our city.
