Mom won’t file charges after son is ‘stomped’ in fight

First Posted: 2/23/2014 Hazleton Area&#8217;s Sal Biasi, GAR&#8217;s Isaiah Francis and Meyers&#8217; Tyriek Steward were named divisional MVPs by the Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball coaches on Sunday afternoon.
The coaches also selected first-team and second-team all-stars and honorable mentions. The Times Leader will select an All-WVC team at a later date that will encompass all three divisions.
Biasi averaged 24.5 points for Hazleton Area during the WVC Division I season, second best in the division and the entire conference. The senior guard connected on 41 three-pointers, also second most in the division and WVC.
Francis, a senior forward, led Division II in scoring with a 19.5 average in helping the Grenadiers to the divisional title. He scored his 1,000th career point on Jan. 21 against Hanover Area.
Steward was the only returning starter on the roster to start the season. He paced Meyers with a 17.1 scoring average, which was third best in Division III. He also helped the Mohawks to another divisional title.
Coaches of the Year were Crestwood&#8217;s Mark Atherton in Division I, GAR&#8217;s Paul Brown in Division II and MMI Prep&#8217;s Joe Flanagan in Division III.

Senior All-Star rosters set
The coaches selected the seniors to play in the 45th annual Dr. George P. Moses Senior All-Star Classic set for 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Holy Redeemer High School. The girls game will start at 6:30 p.m.
The teams weren&#8217;t split up along geographical lines as in the past to make for a more competitive game. Team names haven&#8217;t been selected.
Holy Redeemer&#8217;s Paul Guido and Lake-Lehman&#8217;s Brian Cutter will coach one team.
