Armstrong, 31, was Pittsburgh&#8217;s first round pick in the 2001 NHL Draft, going 21st overall. After his junior career ended in 2002, Armstrong joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the 2002-03 campaign and played in 73 games as a rookie. He spent the next four seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before he was called up to Pittsburgh during the 2005-06 season.
That year, Armstrong appeared in 47 games with Pittsburgh and scored 16 goals and 40 points. He remained in the NHL for the next eight years, including another two with Pittsburgh, until he was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in 2008 in the package that brought Marian Hossa to the Penguins.
Armstrong played three seasons with Atlanta, and posted a career-best 22 goals in 2008-09. He went on to play two seasons with Toronto and last season with Montreal before moving on to Sweden.
For his career, Armstrong appeared in 476 NHL games and scored 89 goals and 209 points.
