DALLAS TWP. &#8212; Dallas made it to its fifth straight District 2 boys lacrosse championship game and gave its best shot to date before falling short against visiting Crestwood, 14-9, in Thursday night&#8217;s championship game.The Mountaineers, who lost their previous four finals by a total of 31 goals against Delaware Valley, were within one midway through the fourth quarter before the Comets scored the game&#8217;s final four goals.&#8220;The seniors are upset,&#8221; first-year coach Drew Abatangelo said, &#8220;but they left us with a great message in that championships are earned in the offseason.&#8220;Hopefully, the younger guys take that, train hard and practice.&#8221;After leading twice in the first 15 minutes, Dallas spent most of the game playing from behind.The Mountaineers rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the game in the third quarter and cut a multi-goal deficit to one four other times in the second half.&#8220;Crestwood just came out and played a great game,&#8221; Abatangelo said.When the Mountaineers were penalized as Robert Coslett scored a goal with 5:32 remaining, the Comets took advantage.The infraction gave Crestwood possession and made Dallas play shorthanded.Dallas goalie Corey McAndrew came up with one save on Andrew Bobynskyj and the Mountaineers attempted to clear the ball from their defensive end when Ryan Magin made a steal and scored for a 12-9 lead.With the Comets protecting the ball and killing the clock, Jay Popson scored the last two of his five goals, including one with Dallas again playing short, to secure the win.The teams split regular-season meetings and each knocked off higher-seeded opponents in the semifinals to reach the final.When Crestwood appeared ready to pull away the first time, Dallas scored three times in 1:56 of the third quarter to force a 6-6 tie.Brendah Baloh scored the first two goals. Dallas picked up possession on a penalty following the second Baloh goal and Cory Metz scored 12 seconds later.Metz finished with four goals and Baloh had three.Matt Ross and Omar Nijmeh each added a goal and two assists. Jesse Goode had two assists.Corey McAndrew made 13 saves in goal.
