Kuhnhackl has little to cheer for in Olympics

First Posted: 11/23/2014 HANOVER TWP. &#8212; The Hanover Area Jr./Senior High School cafeteria was transformed into a winter wonderland Sunday for a &#8220;Frozen&#8221; tea party, which was attended by over fifty area children dressed as their favorite Disney princess.
Despite the frigid Norway-inspired atmosphere, there was a lot of warmth to go around as the children hugged &#8220;Olaf,&#8221;the silly snowman character in the popular Disney movie.
The event was a fundraiser for the Cheerleaders Booster Club, said Michelle Karpowich, one of the organizers.
Funds raised will help offset the cost of the team&#8217;s uniforms, summer camp and other expenses, she said. &#8220;If we didn&#8217;t have a Booster Club, some of these girlswouldn&#8217;t be able to be on the cheerleading squad.&#8221;
&#8220;We had a lot of support from the community,&#8221; Karpowich said, pointing out that refreshments were donated by Josie&#8217;sItalian Ice, Dunkin Donuts and the Alpine Deli. The tea party fundraiser was a first for the Booster Club, she said.
&#8220;We&#8217;re always trying to think of something different.&#8221;
Karpowich surmised that the event was so well attended because a character breakfast that was scheduled in the local community last winter had to be cancelled due to snow: &#8220;Some of these kids have been waiting all year to have some kind of entertainment with the princesses.&#8221;
The cheerleaders, also dressed as Disney princesses, joined the kids in crafts and activities inspired by the movie.
Three-year-old Nathan Clime of Larksville tugged on the purple-beaded ball gown of cheerleader, Abrielle Garber, who was dressed as one of his favorite Disney characters, Sophia the First. &#8220;He watches Disney Jr. and Sophia is one of the cartoons,&#8221; said his mother, Tiffany Letteer.
Hoisting little Nathan onto her hip, Garber, 17, of Hanover Township, said she enjoyed playing a princess for the day and thought the event was a creative way to raise money for the team.
&#8220;I thought it was a great idea, because it gets the community children involved,&#8221; she said.
