‘Frozen’ fun aids Hanover cheerleaders

First Posted: 12/11/2014 Rumors had been flying about the eventual successor to Berwick football coach George Curry, especially when former Wilkes University coach Frank Sheptock was appointed as the school&#8217;s athletic director nearly a year ago.
That will not happen now as Sheptock was named the new Mount Carmel football coach on Thursday.
Sheptock is going home to his alma mater, being appointed to the position after spending less than a year as Berwick&#8217;s AD. He was also appointed as Mount Carmel&#8217;s athletic director and weight room coordinator.
The Mount Carmel post became available last month when the school board voted to open the position and the weight room manager position held by Carmen DeFrancesco. DeFrancesco was the school&#8217;s coach for the last five seasons with a record of 42-20 with the Red Tornadoes. They finished the 2014 season with a mark of 7-4, but in the three regular-season losses they gave up 169 points. The team lost in the first round of the District 4 Class 2A playoffs to Loyalsock Township.
DeFrancesco previously coached at four other schools &#8212; Cardinal Brennan, Danville, Shamokin and Upper Dauphin &#8212; posting a 152-98 career record.
Sheptock is the winningest coach in the storied history of Wilkes before stepping down last December to take the administrative position in Berwick, near his current hometown. In 18 seasons as the Colonels&#8217; coach, he piled up a 107-81 record (.569), including two NCAA and seven ECAC postseason berths. His best season was in 2006 when he led the team to a Middle Atlantic Conference championship and an 11-1 record, the best in school history.
After graduating from Mount Carmel, Sheptock went on to have a brilliant playing career at Bloomsburg University, where he played linebacker under legendary coach George Landis and was a three-time All-American and All-East honoree.
He was later recognized as a member of the NCAA Division II Team of the Quarter Century (1973-97) and holds Huskies school records for tackles in a career (537), single season (159) and single game (23), and career fumble recoveries (12). Bloom&#8217;s best season with Sheptock manning the middle of the defense came in 1985 when the team reached the NCAA Division II semifinals.
He is a member of the Bloomsburg Sports Hall of Fame, being inducted in 1997, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in July of 2007.

Sheptock leaves Berwick to coach Mount Carmel
