First Posted: 4/10/2014 PLAINS TWP. &#8212; Township Commissioner Rob Sax reminded residents during Thursday&#8217;s board meeting of upcoming road work on West Carey Street.
Within the next 30 days, the street will be completely repaved from St. Mary&#8217;s Street to North Main Street. Curbing and sidewalks will also be replaced where necessary. Utility poles have already begun to be replaced.
A more precise time frame will be set once township officials hold a pre-construction meeting with representatives from Piner Construction of Honesdale.
&#8220;West Carey Street is going to be a work in progress for the next three or four months,&#8221; Sax said.
The price tag for the completely township funded project is roughly $250,000.
The street, described by Sax as a &#8220;major gateway into town,&#8221; is home to a school and several businesses and has fallen into a state of disrepair in the last few years.
In other matters, the supervisors announced the reopening of the municipal recycling center for yard waste drop-offs and set the schedule for the annual clutter cleanup.
Residents will be able to drop off yard waste at the Cemetery Street Recycling Center from 8 a.m. t0 noon, starting today. Regular curbside yard waste pickups will begin on regularly scheduled garbage days as of May 27.
The clutter cleanup will be take place from May 5 through May 8 for residents with Monday garbage pickups; May 12 through 15 for residents with Tuesday garbage pickups; May 19 through May 22 for residents with Wednesday garbage pickups; and May 27 through May 29 for residents with Thursday garbage pickups.
Four items can be collected for free and an additional four can be placed out for pickup at a cost of $5 per item.
