LEHMAN TWP. &#8212; The township now has money in hand to pay for repairs to Jackson Road.The township supervisors on Monday announced that the township received a check in the amount of $42,600 from UGI Utilities. The company&#8217;s trucks damaged the road last year during the installation of a gas line to the prison, said board chairman Dave Sutton.A disagreement between UGI and the township regarding the amount of damage that was caused by the trucks and what was natural wear and tear had gone on for some time, the board said.UGI said repairs would cost roughly $80,000, so the township did some research to get a better price and hired Pikes Creek Site Contractors for the job.&#8220;The township&#8217;s engineer, Doug Trumbower, did a fabulous job negotiating an agreement with UGI,&#8221; Sutton said.The board motioned to approve the agreement at Monday&#8217;s meeting. The roadwork will be done on July 30 and 31, weather permitting.Supervisor Ray Iwanoski reported that the Back Mountain Community Partnership was recently notified that it would be receiving a $400,000 grant from gaming fund revenues.The grant will be used to purchase a vacuum truck that will be used to clean storm catch basins and clogged drainpipes, a leaf vacuum truck and a sign reflectometer, which will measure the reflectivity of street signs.
