<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A preliminary hearing for a man accused of shooting another man in the leg, then laughing about it, has been continued.</p><p>Kareem Owens, 35, of Brooklyn, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Martin Kane for his preliminary hearing on Friday, but prosecutors requested a continuance so they could have the victim in the case present to testify. The hearing was rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 3.</p><p>Owens faces two counts of aggravated assault and a single count of reckless endangerment. He remains jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $150,000 bail.</p><p>Wilkes-Barre police arrested Owens minutes after he allegedly shot another man within earshot of two officers working a special security detail at the troubled Sherman Hills apartment complex on Aug. 6.</p><p>Police allege Owens shot Keith Habersham in the leg and mimicked the screams of Habersham, telling an officer, &#8220;That (racial slur) was yelling like a baby,&#8221; while laughing, according to charges filed.</p><p>Owens allegedly refused commands from an officer to get on the ground, and he allegedly dropped a handgun when he struggled with an officer. Police said the handgun was loaded with two rounds and had an altered serial number, the criminal complaint says.</p><p>Tashana Mickens, a witness, told police Habersham was her boyfriend and Owens was her ex-boyfriend. Mickens claimed the shooting was over a car crashing into Habersham&#8217;s tractor-trailer truck.</p><p>Habersham was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Police said Habersham&#8217;s injury was non-life threatening.</p><p>Court records say Judge David Lupas on April 14 sentenced Owens to five months time served in jail on charges of flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and false identification in connection to a domestic dispute with Mickens on Nov. 16. Lupas had told Owens not to enter Sherman Hills as part of the sentence.</p><style>
