<p>DORRANCE TWP. &#8212; A request submitted by a township resident for a zoning variance in order to erect an 8-foot fence on his property wasn&#8217;t resolved by the township&#8217;s zoning hearing board Tuesday night.</p><p>Instead, the board decided to &#8220;continue&#8221; a review of a petition by Richard Smith Sr. whose property bounds St. Mary&#8217;s Road and Blue Ridge Trail. It was stated that Smith sought an exception from current township code that restricts fencing to a height of six feet.</p><p>Smith filed the variance request through Alan Snelson, zoning and codes enforcement officer, and the matter was referred to the hearing board.</p><p>Snelson&#8217;s role was discussed briefly at Monday&#8217;s meeting of the township supervisors when it was contended by township resident Kevin Gallagher that Snelson operates &#8220;A little too much by the book.&#8221;</p><p>Supervisors Gary Zane and Royce Engler, however, had no comment except to note the hearing had been scheduled according to code.</p><p>Besides receiving a report on road repair work affected by roadmaster Todd Badman, including filling pot holes on Country Club Drive as requested in August by Michael Filchak, the only other act approved by the supervisors was to participate in county-wide free used tire recycling programs on Oct. 3 in Butler Twp. and Oct. 10 in Hanover Twp.</p><div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta><p>By Tom Huntington</p><p>For Times Leader</p></bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta><p>Reach the Times Leader newsroom at 570-829-7242 or on Twitter @TLnews.</p></shirttailMeta></div>
