Locals active at Denison House

<p>We&#8217;re less than a week away from quite possibly my most embarrassing moment. And quite possibly a career-ending broken ankle.</p><p>We might not be wearing glass slippers, but I can assure you lots of Prince Charmings will be there to sweep Downtown Pittston off its feet.</p><p>Thirteen local men will take to the streets following Paint Pittston Pink&#8217;s Color Me Pink 5k and Caped-CUREsader Family Fun Walk on Oct. 3 to help raise money for the Pennies in Action Fund at The University of Pennsylvania.</p><p>The event, called Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Gentlemen&#8217;s Dash, will include Ed Ackerman, John Adonizio, Michael Callahan, Patrick Cosgrove, Jay Duffy, Jarrett Ferentino, Marty Jordan, Russell Keeler, Luke Matthews, Dr. Chris Sanders, Sal Sciandra and Brian Stahl.</p><p>Oh, and I will also be participating.</p><p>The event is slated to start between 11:45 a.m. and noon.</p><p>Here&#8217;s the catch: Each participant is tasked with raising money for their &#8220;dash.&#8221; The individual who raises the most money will be given the flattest pair of shoes. The rest of the participants, will be wearing some schnazzy high heels. I asked the event organizer, Barbara Sciandra, if I could wear the glass slippers, but she said they are reserved for Cinderella.</p><p><a href="https://raceroster.com/events/2015/5783/color-me-pink-5k/pledge/team?id=2" target="_blank">As of Sept. 23, the group of men raised $6,315</a> for cancer research - $6,315! I&#8217;m <a href="https://raceroster.com/events/2015/5783/color-me-pink-5k/pledge?type=participant&amp;id=20" target="_blank">proud to say that I&#8217;ve raised $860</a>. But this isn&#8217;t over yet. My man Jay Duffy is <a href="https://raceroster.com/events/2015/5783/color-me-pink-5k/pledge?type=participant&amp;id=24" target="_blank">currently in the lead </a>with $1,735. In the end, all money goes to one place &#8212; a place that will help all of us one way or another.</p><p>Barb asked each of us to run the race in honor or memory of someone. Personally, breast cancer does not run in my family. I have had family members pass with different types of the disease, but no breast cancer. After doing some digging, however, I found out my distant cousin is a breast cancer survivor.</p><p>I will be &#8220;dashing&#8221; for Liz Cope. Liz is a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard and works at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. I cannot promise her a win, but I can promise her that we will do our best to help raise as much money as possible for breast cancer research.</p><p>When my counterparts and I line the street we will try to win &#8212; try to heel past one another. The course is the length of a football field and getting 10 first downs in heels will be no easy task.</p><p>I&#8217;m sure the race will be close at the initial first down mark. From there, however, it&#8217;s a crapshoot. If I was a betting man &#8212; and I am &#8212; I have a feeling Duffy&#8217;s flatter shoes might earn him the victory. However, there is still time to vote! While you&#8217;re helping us get the flatter shoes, you&#8217;re also helping a great cause.</p><p>All donations can be made online through the Race Roster website.
