Healthy fun, penguin in disguise at Halloween Hustle & Health Fair

<p>DIMOCK &#8212; When a team has already won 84 straight conference meets and five straight regular-season titles, it&#8217;s difficult to say they&#8217;re getting started.</p><p>That may, however, be the case with the Dallas boys cross country team.</p><p>The Mountaineers won their first District 2 Cross Country Championship in four years Saturday with sophomores in the top two spots and two freshmen among the five who produced the team score.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re kind of known a lot for our girls so it&#8217;s nice that our guys get a turn at the top of the podium,&#8221; Dallas coach Matt Samuel said.</p><p>The Dallas program has produced three state titles in the past two years &#8211; Dominic DeLuca as the boys individual in 2013, the girls team the same year and Ally Rome as the girls individual last year.</p><p>The best year(s) of the boys program may still be in the future.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so tough to get out of here,&#8221; Samuel said. &#8220; &#8230; Scranton Prep is so good and then Tunkhannock would always show up here and do real well, so it was good to see this (Saturday).&#8221;</p><p>Sophomores Jack Zardecki and Adam Borton both finished in 17:02 to take fifth and sixth place. Jason Culp was just two seconds back in eighth.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m pretty excited for states,&#8221; Zardecki said. &#8220;It&#8217;s good to be back there again with our young team to get some more experience.&#8221;</p><p>The Mountaineers were eighth in the state last year with four freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and a senior running in Hershey.</p><p>The lineup has barely gotten any older.</p><p>Two new freshmen &#8211; Mitchell Rome and Stephen Postupak &#8211; have broken in. They were 21st and 29th out of 109.</p><p>Berwick, the team that finished second to Dallas in the Wyoming Valley Conference season, easily beat out unbeaten Lackawanna League champion Montrose for the second state berth, 97-128.</p><p>The 29-second spread in the five scoring runners for the Bulldogs was the smallest of any team in any of Saturday&#8217;s six races.</p><p>Ty Fisher led the way in 10th place and Mason Kimball, Beau Blass, Mitchell Martin and Bao Lee all joined him in the top 24.</p><p>The Hazleton Area boys, who won last year&#8217;s title, finished second in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional race, but only the top team qualifies for Hershey in Class 3A.</p><style>
