<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; UGI spokesperson Joseph Swope credits area residents with making the transition to restoration of their gas service possible.</p><p>Swope said of the willingness of those in the Rolling Mill Hill area of the city affected by an outage since late last week to cooperate and exhibit an understanding spirit &#8220;phenomenal.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;This isn&#8217;t simple a PR statement; we have heard again and again of the residents&#8217; cooperation and understanding although they have certainly been inconvenienced by lack of access to gas,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Swope said the outage, which affected about 125 homes, occurred because of a brief over-pressurization of the gas lines affecting heating units within the homes of its customers, making them unsafe to operate.</p><p>He said as of Tuesday morning, 30 homes were still affected.</p><p>&#8220;This isn&#8217;t an evacuation,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Most of the people in the homes affected have returned to their residences and are using portable heating units.&#8221;</p><p>When asked when the situation might be completely resolved, Swope said, &#8220;That&#8217;s the million dollar question. We are putting the safety of our customers first. We&#8217;re hoping to resolve this within the next few days.&#8221;</p><p>Because UGI is replacing unsafe units in the homes of those affected, Swope said there was a process of contacting the homeowner and repairing or replacing units as home owners were available.</p><p>UGI has set up a point of contact center at 450 Empire St. for those affected by the outage and Swope said residents are encouraged to contact UGI directly with any concerns.</p><p>&#8220;It was fortunate that we had above-average temperatures during this outage,&#8221; said Swope. &#8220;We would love to see everything back to normal.&#8221;</p><p>Customers can call UGI at 1-800-276-2722 with questions or concerns.</p><style>
