Test Kitchen: Pittston Township resident’s recipe for cream of broccoli soup an easy and tasty dish

<p>SCRANTON &#8212; On Saturday, Jan. 16, &#8220;the toughest of the toughest&#8221; will paddle and revelers will fill the banks of the Lackawanna River. A day of exercise and fun, ShiverFest will draw the community outdoors during the cold winter to celebrate the valley and the river that runs through it.</p><p>Sponsored by the Lackawanna River Corridor Association, the &#8220;Extreme Kayak &amp; Canoe Race&#8221; will travel approximately 2.7 miles of the Lackawanna River in Scranton from Parker Street to Sweeney&#8217;s Beach. Paddlers who are willing to brave the winter on the River should have their own vessel and wet suit or dry suit(strongly recommended). Launch time is noon. The entry fee of $30 includes the &#8220;Thaw Party&#8221; afterward.</p><p>Participants can preregister at https://lrcashiverfest2016.eventbrite.com</p><p>The Race will be followed by a &#8220;Thaw Party&#8221; at the Hilton Scranton &amp; Conference Center from 2 to 5 p.m. The paddlers, revelers and the general public are invited to join in. Entry to the &#8220;Thaw Party&#8221; is $20, which includes food, beverages, music, education and camaraderie.
