<p>JENKINS TWP. &#8212; A small fire on the roof led to the evacuation of approximately 80 residents Friday from an apartment building on the Wesley Village campus.</p><p>There were no injuries and the cause appeared to be construction-related, said Dan Kosisky, Jenkins Township fire chief.</p><p>&#8220;We know it was in the area where the contractors were working,&#8221; Kosisky said.</p><p>Kosisky said he believes a plumbing crew was on the roof. &#8220;Preliminary, it would be a construction incident,&#8221; Kosisky said.</p><p>The alarm came in shortly after 11 a.m. for a fire at the six-story Myers Manor building containing apartments for people who can live on their own or require some personal care.</p><p>Firefighters used an aerial ladder to access the roof and extinguish the fire. They also used fans to clear the smoke from the building. Fire departments from neighboring municipalities also responded to the alarm.</p><p>&#8220;This building was evacuated but they stayed on premises. They were evacuated over to the nursing facility,&#8221; Kosisky said of the apartment building residents. At the scene, he was unable to provide the number of people evacuated.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re talking about 80 residents,&#8221; said Dan Golaszewski, spokesman for United Methodist Home at its corporate office in Binghamton, New York.</p><p>The residents and staff were safe and people would be returned to their rooms, he said.</p><p>The Wesley Village campus occupies 98 acres and provides a variety of services from personal care to skilled nursing to dementia care. There are independent living arrangements and continuing care for residents in a retirement community, according to its website.</p><style>
