PLYMOUTH &#8211; While the Wyoming Valley West boys were protecting their unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference record, the school&#8217;s girls team was ruining Tunkhannock&#8217;s perfect mark.Alexis Ivanitch, Chelsea Mackiewicz and Felicia Brittain each won two individual and two relay events Wednesday afternoon as Valley West won the first seven swimming events on build up a comfortable lead on the way to a 100-83 victory.Brittain was a bit off her best times, but still managed to win both the 200- and 100-yard freestyles while the Lady Spartans were taking command early.&#8220;We were nervous,&#8221; Brittain said, &#8220;but we figured we&#8217;d pull together and if we tried our best, we could pull off something great.&#8221;That something was improving to 4-1 while dropping Tunkhannock to 5-1 and leaving Dallas as the WVC&#8217;s only unbeaten girls swim team.Clare Winton finished right behind Brittain in the 200 free. When she followed Brittain&#8217;s 100 free win with her own victory in the 500 free, Winton gave Valley West its largest lead at 23 points two-thirds of the way through the meet.Mackiewicz won the 50 free and 100 butterfly while Ivanitch won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.Ivanitch, Mackiewicz and Brittain were all part of the opening 200 medley relay and closing 400 freestyle relay wins. Freshman Rhena Lauver started the medley relay and Winton was part of the 400 free relay.&#8220;The junior and senior leaders are all real good kids,&#8221; Valley West coach Frank Tribendis said of the group that includes the four multiple event winners along with Paige Williams, Hannah Rodgers and Elizabeth Wood. &#8220;On the girls side, we&#8217;re really solid, they&#8217;re all very hard working.&#8221;Morgan Manglaviti won the 100 backstroke and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team for Tunkhannock.Logan Fluegel and Stanley Zanetski led the way when the Valley West boys improved to 4-0.&#8220;Logan Fluegel&#8217;s probably our hardest-working athlete,&#8221; Tribendis said. &#8220;He and Stanley are extremely coachable. They listen well.&#8221;Fluegel had problems with cramps at practice Tuesday, so Tribendis kept him out of the 200 IM and instead put him in the 200 freestyle.&#8220;I kept him out of the IM and he goes 1:53 in the 200 freestyle coming right out of the first relay,&#8221; Tribendis said.In doing so, Fluegel edged Tunkhannock&#8217;s Jacob Skoronski, one of District 2&#8217;s top freestyle swimmers.Fluegel also won the 100 freestyle by more than three seconds. Zanetski won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.Josh Zawatski and Zac Rosencrans each were on two winning relays &#8211; the Spartans swept the three relays &#8211; and an individual event.Maxim Kowalski was on two winning relays, Jared Lybolt had an individual and relay win and Ivan Volynets joined the on the 200 free relay.Skoronski, in the 500 freestyle, and diver Sawyer Aitken had the only wins for Tunkhannock.Dallas 102, Wyoming Seminary 81Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s Tara Kupsky set a school record in the 100 butterfly and 50 free with times of 1:00.34 and 25.06, respectively. But it would Dallas that swam away with the win.Annalise Cheshire picked up wins in the 50 free (24.78) and 100 free (55.24) for Dallas. Maddy Ross won the diving event with a score of 206.00 while the Mountaineers won two out of three relays at the meet.Berwick 98, Coughlin 66Samantha Dyer finished first in the 200 free (2:24.53) and 500 free (6:34.87) while Becca Decker took first in the 50 free (27.13) and 100 free (59.60) events as Berwick defeated Coughlin on the road.The Crusaders won two of out three relays during the meet and Hannah Redding won the 200 IM (2:38.40) and 100 back (1:12.46).BOYS SWIMMINGDallas 92, Wyoming Seminary 77Porter Luksic won the 100 free with a time of 52.37 and also finished first in the 100 breast at 1:03.33 as he helped Dallas top Wyoming Seminary.Troy Reinert won the 50 free (24.09) and Mikail Krochta recorded a win in the 200 IM (2:16.68) for Dallas.GIRLS SWIMMINGWyoming Valley West 100, Tunkhannock 83200 Medley Relay &#8212; 1.
