HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Authorities are advising drivers to avoid Interstate 78 in eastern Pennsylvania following multiple crashes and shutdowns due to icy conditions. The Wolf administration says freezing rain and melted snow are causing icy conditions in many places in the commonwealth. Multiple collisions along the I-78 corridor west of Allentown have been causing backlogs. Officials said westbound lanes of the highway in Berks County were shut after one 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, and eastbound lanes were closed by another crash. State police have sent troopers to work with local police and fire agencies to try to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
