‘Diamond Drop’ proceeds will help children to shine

<p>EXETER &#8212; It&#8217;s the end of the Pat Greenfield era at Exeter staple, Grico&#8217;s Restaurant and Catering.</p><p>After more than 25 years in business, Greenfield took to Facebook on Saturday to announce that a buyer for the establishment has been found. The restaurant celebrated 75 years in business in 2010.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve found a buyer for Grico&#8217;s who has pledged to maintain as much as possible of what makes Grico&#8217;s Grico&#8217;s,&#8221; the Facebook post said.</p><p>According to the post, the transfer is hoped to be finalized by the end of March and Greenfield will be &#8220;here until then.&#8221;</p><p>Since the sale was not finalized and recorded in the Luzerne County Recorder of Deeds office, the sale price is unknown. The building was listed for sale by <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/505020/bernie-foglia-owner-of-villa-foglia-in-exeter-looking-to-sell-restaurant-and-retire" target="_blank">Century 21 Smith Hourigan Group, Shavertown, for $950,000.</a></p><p>The business, located at 1074 Wyoming Ave., bounced back after an <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/archive/177574/stories-fire-damages-landmark-restaurant102445" target="_blank">electrical fire damaged the property in 2011</a>. Times Leader archives say that Greenfield was rescued from the second floor patio. The restaurant reopened in February 2013.</p><p><a href="http://archives.timesleader.com/2011_62/2011_08_28_Landmark_Exeter_restaurant_gutted_by_fire_--.html" target="_blank">According to Times Leader archives,</a> the building was constructed between 1895 and 1905 by Major Kaufman as a dry goods store. Kaufman then sold the building in the 1930s to Stanley Grico, who turned it into the fine dining establishment. The DelPriore family owned the restaurant before Greenfield bought it.</p><p>The new buyer, according to the post, is Rob Friedman, who owns The Beaumont Inn, Dallas, and the River Street Jazz Cafe, Plains Township. The general manager will be Jim Guasto, former executive chef of 279 Bar and Grill, Plains Township.</p><p>Beaumont Inn Assistant Manager Derek Ferguson told the Times Leader on Sunday that Friedman is out of the country.</p><p>The post confirms that upon the changing of hands, the staff and catering crews will stay and gift certificates will continue to be honored.</p><p>&#8220;Although I will miss everyone terribly,&#8221; Greenfield said in the Facebook post, &#8220;I just know in my bones that it is time to give someone else the opportunity to run this magical place.&#8221;</p><p><em>Times Leader staffer Brigid Edmunds contributed to this report.</em></p><style>
