Our Opinion: Sound off to Harrisburg; tell lawmakers that school closures and other disruptions are unacceptable

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; An upcoming edition of &#8220;Crime Watch Daily&#8221; will once again put the disappearance of Phylicia Thomas in the national spotlight.</p><p>Lauren Mintzer-Clark, senior producer of &#8220;Crime Watch Daily,&#8221; explained the feature will be a multi-episodic feature that will span a few weeks. Members of Thomas&#8217; family and law enforcement officers investigating the case will be interviewed to encompass the timeline surrounding her disappearance.</p><p>Times Leader reporter Geraldine Gibbons was also interviewed for the documentary.</p><p>Clark also said the feature will explore the potential link with the disappearance of Jennifer Barziloski, whose skull was discovered in 2010 in Hunlock Township.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re focused on the story of Phylicia Thomas,&#8221; Clark said, adding she hopes the broadcast will bring someone forward with information on the case.</p><p>Thomas, 22, went missing in 2004 after being last seen at a party in Hunlock Creek with Steve Martin.</p><p>Martin was initially named a possible suspect in the case by state police, but he hung himself in 2005 while in prison on an unrelated charge.</p><p>In April 2015, family members and friends of Thomas searched an area along Golf Course Road in Hunlock Creek where they believed her body may have been buried. According to a Times Leader story, the property was formerly Martin&#8217;s home.</p><p>Clark explained &#8220;Crime Watch Daily&#8221; typically covers cases similar to Thomas&#8217;. What stood out about the case, Clark said, is the girl&#8217;s family.</p><p>&#8220;They are so passionate and they just want answers,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Clark began talking to the family a few weeks ago, and host Matt Doran has been filming in the area this week and conducting interviews. Clark said the footage is expected to be compiled next week, and the feature should begin to air within a couple of weeks.</p><p>The case was previously <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/uncategorized/22486/phylicia-thomas-case-to-get-national-attention-from-unsolved-mysteries" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">featured in an edition of &#8220;Unsolved Mysteries.&#8221;</a></p><p>Thomas&#8217; friends and family members <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/511812/in-focus-phylicias-memory-still-warm-on-a-frigid-night" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">recently held a candlelight vigil for her in February</a>.</p><p>As she spoke with the family, Clark learned each time the story was featured in a news article or something was done to draw attention to the case, they got a phone call or a tip.</p><p>Clark hopes featuring Thomas&#8217; story on &#8220;Crime Watch Daily&#8221; will help bring the case to a close.</p><p>&#8220;The show is not just telling the stories; it&#8217;s solving the stories,&#8221; Clark said.</p>
