Gianna Plaksa and her Central Michigan teammates will head to Iowa City, IA Saturday for the NCAA Women&#8217;s Gymnastics Regionals.Plaksa, from Mountain Top (Wyoming Seminary and the Northeast Gymnastics Academy), will compete in floor exercise. She finished tied for sixth in that event in the Mid-American Conference Championships March 10 at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti. The Chippewas were rewarded a Regional bid despite a fourth-place finish.Plaksa posted a college career-high 9.825 at the MAC meet and finished second on her team. She also competed in the vault during the season, but not in the league meet.The top two teams and the top two individuals in each event not with the top two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships April 15-17 in Fort Worth, TX.Second team for MaselkevichSenior Kayla Maselkevich was named to the East Coast Conference second team after a solid season with the Kutztown women&#8217;s bowling team.Maselkevich, a Hazleton Area grad, averaged 189.1 with an 18.38 pins per frame average to help the Golden Bears post a 66-44 record. She was named MVP and was selected on the All-Tournament team at the Allentown tourney in February after averaging 190.4 with a team-high filled frame percentage of 86.0 and a 19.04 frame average.The ECC honor was the first in Maselkevich&#8217;s four years with the team.Good start for Sutton Shippensburg junior Kieran Sutton kicked off the outdoor track season with a standout performance at Richmond&#8217;s Fred Hardy Invitational last weekend in Richmond, VA.The Lake-Lehman grad captured the 1,500-meter run with a solid time of 3:54.84. Division I runners made up more than half of the field of 28.Sutton also finished eighth in the 800-meter run in 1:58.52. He was the second Division II runner to cross the finish line.The Raiders face another group of Division I athletes when they compete in William &amp; Mary&#8217;s Colonial Relays Friday and Saturday in Williamsburg, VA.Honor for VitiMisericordia senior Amy Viti was named Middle Atlantic Conference Field Athlete of the Week in women&#8217;s track Monday after a solid performance in the York Twilight Invitational last Wednesday. She captured the 800-meter run in 2:21.10 and the 1,500-meter run in 4:41.23.Senior teammate Bianca Boilton, a Pittstown Area grad, finished third out of 25 in the 800 (2:25.50) and fourth out of 26 in the 1,500 (4:52.43).Hayward still tough St. Joseph&#8217;s senior Dannah Hayward wrapped up the indoor track season by winning the 500-meter dash at the ECAC Championships with a time of 1:14.05. Last weekend, she kicked off the outdoor season by winning the 400-meter hurdles at the 21st annual Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, N.J.The Coughlin grad bested a field of 19 at Monmouth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:02.91. She won the event by over a second.The Hawks finished second in a field of nine teams with 71 points.One more for AlexisPhiladelphia University senior Peter Alexis will play in the Division II College All-Star game Friday in Frisco, TX.The invitation caps off a standout senior season with the Rams. The Holy Redeemer grad averaged 19.3 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. He had 15 double-doubles and led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in blocked shots with 78.Alexis leaves the Rams having finished second in career blocks (268), third in rebounds (1,162) and fourth in scoring (2.116 points) in the Philadelphia record book.Aguire selectedSusquehanna sophomore Gabby Alguire was named Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week after a big effort in the annual Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by the Crusaders in Selinsgrove.The Tunkhannock Area grad captured the javelin in a field of 33 with a toss of 155-7 which was just one-inch shy of her personal best. The field included throwers from all three divisions.Aguire&#8217;s distance is currently the top mark in NCAA Division III.Smith a starterAlex Smith is starting as a freshman with the Keystone women&#8217;s lacrosse team. The Coughlin grad is playing attack for the Giants who are 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.Smith has scored three goals. She collected her first collegiate point with a score in the season-opening 17-6 victory over St. Elizabeth. She scored two goals in a 26-18 loss to Lancaster Bible on March 22. She also has seven ground balls, a draw control and two caused turnovers.A first for McGuireBloomsburg freshman Nick McGuire competed in his first-ever 10,000-meter run and finished second at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational in Lynchburg, VA. The Crestwood grad finished with a time of 32.42 which qualifies him for the PSAC Outdoor Track Championships May 12-14 in Mansfield.McGuire competed in the mile, 3,000 and 5,000 during the indoor season.Solid meet for JimcoskyDickinson junior Amanda Jimcosky kicked off her outdoor season with a strong showing in field events at the York Twilight Invitational. The Northwest Area grad finished second in the high jump (5-0 &#188;), second in the triple jump (33-11 &#189;) and fourth in the long jump (15-2 &#188;).Jimcosky is the school record holder in the indoor high jump (5-5).Kohli breaks her slump Senior Sara Kohli got off to a slow start at the plate for the 6-5 LaRoche softball team, but the Dallas grad had a strong outing in a split with Waynesburg last Saturday in Pittsburgh.Kohli had an RBI single to help the Redhawks win the opening game 9-4. She had two singles in a 5-0 loss to Waynesburg in the second game.On the season, the infielder has lifted her average to .185 (5 for 27) with a double, four RBIs and seven runs scored.LaRoche kicks off its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule with a home doubleheader against Hilbert Saturday in Pittsburgh.Michalick&#8217;s No. 1Junior Alex Michalick, a Crestwood grad, is playing No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Elizabethtown men&#8217;s tennis team. He helped the Blue Jays take their first match of the season after three losses by teaming with Ryan Caris of Aston to post an 8-5 victory to key a 7-2 triumph over King&#8217;s.Michalick was beaten 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles by King&#8217;s George Parkhurst of Shavertown (Wyoming Seminary).<style>
