Letter to the Editor: U.S. Senate overdue for some ‘new blood’

Masquerading as protecting neighborhoods, then-Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta ran a race-based campaign for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.Many friends and associates challenged this view that held the decline of Hazleton was an example of how immigration has been the downfall of the region. Doing so completely overlooks the real cause of the decline &#8211; the economic deterioration of the United States brought about by rapacious &#8220;trickle-down&#8221; policies, &#8220;corporations are people&#8221; perspectives and the combined consolidation of wealth to the wealthiest Americans, coupled with the downward spiral of poverty and debt following voodoo Reaganomics and the destruction of unions.Being no more than a knee-jerk lackey to the obstructionist, do-nothing leadership of his party, Barletta has now fully revealed his racial views by supporting the hate-speech-spouting, violence-espousing, torture-embracing embarrassment that is Donald Trump.Would that I had been proved wrong.
