Luzerne County restaurant inspections March 21 - 25

<p>The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: &#8220;any inspection is a &#8216;snapshot&#8217; of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.&#8221; The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state&#8217;s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.</p><p><strong>Wegmans Food Market #076</strong>, 1315 Scranton-Carbondale Hwy., Dickson City, March 24. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Sesame chicken was held at 117 degrees F in the hot food bar rather than 135 degrees F or above as required. Product pulled from hot hold unit and placed on range for rapid reheating. Grilled chicken and cooked pulled pork, refrigerated ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety foods, were held at 46-48 degrees F in the prepackaged meals to go case rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Product disposed. Diced rotisserie chicken was held at 48 degrees F in the first salad bar area rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Product voluntarily disposed of. Several white platters, a food contact surface, on the clean storage rack in the wash area behind the pizza area were observed to have old food and grease residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Observed &#189;-gallon Wegmans 1 percent milk with expired dates of March 21, 2016, intended for sale in the food facility. Expired milk removed from sale. Observed a buildup of old food residue and debris under and behind the storage shelves in the dairy walk-in cooler in need of cleaning. Observed black mold-like buildup on the sliding doors and rails in the dairy walk-in cooler. Nature walk-in cooler has a &#189;-inch gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals. Receiving doors numbered 1, 2, 5 and 9 (produce area) in the receiving area, in the back of the food facility, have gaps between 1 and 2 inches and do not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.</p><p><strong>Cafe Rinaldi</strong>, 426 S. Main St., Old Forge, March 25. Follow up inspection; in compliance.</p><p><strong>Julia&#8217;s Restaurant,</strong> 501 N. Main St., Old Forge, March 25. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Floor in the kitchen area is cracked, roughened and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Owner stated it is in the process of repair.</p><p><strong>Naiomie&#8217;s Ice Cream 1</strong> <strong>(2GS-9420 PA)-MFF3</strong>, 506 Pancost St., Dickson City, March 25. Regular inspection; in compliance.</p><p><strong>Naiomie&#8217;s Ice Cream 2 (2HV-6526 PA)-MFF3</strong>, 506 Pancost St., Dickson City, March 25. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: No sign posted at the hand-wash sink area to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign posted during inspection. New food facility has 90 days to meet requirement for a certified food employee. Employee to fax a copy of certificate to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture office once completed.</p><p><strong>Convenient Food Mart #3029</strong>, 330 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, March 26. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed boxes of potato chips stored directly on the floor in prep area, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Chips moved during this inspection. Commercially processed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meats, salad dressings), located in the bain marie, held more than 24 hours, are not marked with the date it was opened. PDA handout on date marking left and reviewed with owner during this inspection. All items will be date marked going forward.</p><p><strong>Crown Flea Market</strong>, 600 Scranton-Carbondale Hwy., Archbald. March 26. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Food facility using temporary ware-washing sink which does not have basins large enough to accommodate largest piece of equipment needing manual ware-washing. Three-compartment sink will be installed. Refrigerated ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerator, is not being date marked. Observed six deli hoagies, retailed off sales counter at ambient room temperature. If time rather than temperature is used as public health control then time controlled foods shall be marked with a time that is four hours past the time the food was removed from temperature control and disposal made at that time. Written records shall be kept daily on disposals. The hand-wash sink in the prep area is as a food preparation sink as evidenced by observed pans and utensils in the sink. The hand-wash sink in the prep area was blocked and not accessible at all times for employee use. The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. Owner stated that on May 30, he is scheduled to complete a food safety course.</p><p><strong>Duffy&#8217;s Coffee House,</strong> 306 S. State St., Clarks Summit, March 26. Complaint inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed a large brown and white St. Bernard dog come in to the facility with its owner. The owner stated dog is an emotional support animal.</p><p><strong>La Tonalteca Mexican Restaurant</strong>, 821 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, March 26. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Open beverage containers were observed in bain marie areas, a food preparation area. Beverages removed during inspection. Food ingredient storage containers, back kitchen area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. The upper interior ice chute area, a food contact surface, observed to have a pink slimy residue, not clean to sight and touch. The ice machine was shut off during this inspection and will not be used until cleaned. Food employees observed in kitchen, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Non-food contact surfaces (fan guards in walk-in cooler) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust.</p><p><strong>Basilico&#8217;s Pizzeria</strong>, 608 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City, March 28. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Several food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. Containers labeled during inspection. Common bowls observed in several food containers in kitchen. Bowls were removed. Milk was held at 52 degrees F in the refrigerator in the waitress area rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. Milk was voluntarily discarded. Digital thermometer was calibrated to 32 degrees F in front of facility staff during this inspection. Ambient air temperature of waitress area refrigerated was observed at 50 degrees F during this inspection. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Hot water, as observed at main kitchen hand-wash sink, is not under pressure during inspection. Person in charge stated valve is shut off due to constant leaking. Working container in the front counter area, used for storing chemicals taken from bulk supplies, not marked with the common name of the chemical. Chemical was identified and labeled during inspection. The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats or beard covers. Observed food stored directly on the floor in walk-in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Items moved during inspection. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meats/cheeses), located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, are not being marked with the date opened. Deli meats/cheeses were date marked. Observed deeply scored cutting boards on the two bain marie units in the main kitchen not resurfaced or discarded as required. Non-food contact surfaces (soda dispensing unit shelving) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. The hand-wash sink located in the back kitchen area does not have water at a temperature of at least 100 degrees F. Observed employee using sink to wash hands. Employee instructed to use hand sink at front counter area until hot water was available at back hand-wash sink.</p><style>
