Red Cross seeks nominations to honor community heroes

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The National Weather Service is offering free training to those who want to detect and report severe weather to the National Weather Service, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and lightening.The training will be held April 14 at the Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency, 185 Water St., Wilkes-Barre.Topics will include information on SKYWARN, a program that collects reports of severe weather, the NWS mission and the importance of spotters and ground truth reports and examples of how spotters can help forecasters warn the public about severe weather.&#8220;Trained weather spotters provide valuable lifesaving information to the National Weather Service and we encourage those who have an interest in weather to participate,&#8221; said David Nicosia, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Binghamton.Space in the class is limited and registration is required at http://goo.gl/forms/iJ3leQn6RA.
