DURYEA &#8212; The borough council approved the sale of several pieces of street department equipment at the monthly meeting on Tuesday.The borough accepted three bids for a total of three vehicles, which were used in the Duryea Street Department. The first, a 1999 F550 Dump Truck with 69,000 miles received one bid from Balchune Construction for $4,150 and was approved. The second dump truck, also a 1999 F550, had 74,000 miles and received two bids. Balchune Construction also won that bid for $3,450.The borough also received and accepted a bid for its 1990 GMC Top Kick Diesel Recycling Truck from resident Mark Margavitch for $3,525. The borough still has a custom-built trailer for sale, which did not receive any bids.Council also approved the purchase of an industrial lawn tractor from Ventrak for $24,504.05. The purchase will be under the condition of a test drive of the machine on the dike in Duryea, where the machine will be mostly used.Street Department Supervisor Gino Marriggi will give his recommendation to council on whether or not to purchase the machine.Council also approved a motion to file Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services. For ALS, first due will be Pittston City, followed by Penn Ambulance and Commonwealth. For BLS, first due is Avoca, followed by Hughestown and Pittston City.In other business:&#8226; Council adopted Resolution 2016-3 to approve changing street lighting from traditional to LED lighting.&#8226; The following were appointed as part-time police officers for April, to be used as necessary: Brian Russo, Matthew Fredmonski, Jared Beilman, Ruddy Navarro, Dave Homschek, Thomas Walsh, Jason Barry, Jeremy Jones, Brianne Dunn and Patrick Zippittelli.&#8226; Council authorized John Maros of MBC Solutions to develop a program that would coordinate a database of residents, invoices, the sale of garbage stickers, receipts and a final listing of delinquent accounts for 2017.&#8226; The borough will purchase new garage doors for the borough building from Row Door Sales in the amount of $3,130.&#8226; Council approved Gashi and Son Tree Service to remove two trees in front of the Community Park on Stephenson Street in the amount of $2,800. Limbs from the tree, council said, have been falling periodically over the past several years at the park and have become a danger.
