Duryea Borough Council approves sale of two dump trucks, recycling truck

<p>KINGSTON &#8212; Police and fire crews&#8217; search of the Susquehanna River on Thursday for a report of a body seen floating in the river has not led to any discoveries.</p><p>Edward Snarski, assistant chief for the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department, said crews were dispatched at 10:34 a.m. He added, however, the response was delayed because the report came in approximately 30 minutes after the reported sighting took place.</p><p>Snarski also said a &#8220;credible&#8221; photo was reportedly given to authorities by Luzerne County 911, but added he had not seen the photo.</p><p>Chief Jay Delaney elaborated further on the initial call. He explained the caller&#8217;s brother had stopped at the boat launch approximately 30 minutes before the call came in, and texted the caller a photo of what appeared to be a body in hunting gear floating down the river.</p><p>Emergency broadcasts indicated crews had been dispatched to patrol both sides of the river in the area, and fire officials had dispatched a rescue boat from the boat launch in Nesbitt Park.</p><p>Delaney said the fire department dispatched its rescue boat with three firefighters on board to scour both sides of the river all the way down to the Hanover Township line for over an hour.</p><p>&#8220;Subsequently, our search showed nothing,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Delaney couldn&#8217;t confirm or deny if the incident was a hoax. He said, however, the three firefighters on the river had to deal with a high river level, fast currents, debris in the river and other hazards.</p><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s an assortment of things that could happen when they are out there,&#8221; Delaney said. &#8220;There&#8217;s a risk every time you go on the river.&#8221;</p><p>Delaney said crews returned from the river safely, but added they were still exposed to risks.</p><p>&#8220;If it was (a hoax), I&#8217;m really upset with that,&#8221; he said.</p><style>
