<p>Wyoming Seminary has selected Kevin P. Kelly as the new associate director of athletics and head football coach at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School Sem president, Kevin Rea, announced on Friday.</p><p>Kelly is a former defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach at Ball State University and will begin work at Sem on July 1.</p><p>&#8220;We are most fortunate and pleased to welcome Kevin Kelly and his family to the Sem community,&#8221; Rea said. &#8220;He has coached in bowl games with more than 100,000 fans in the stands, but he is really all about the 22 young men on the field. Our varsity and junior varsity players will greatly benefit from his impressive experience as well as his support of the school&#8217;s academic program and its scholar-athletes. We are confident that Kevin will continue our football program&#8217;s legacy of excellence.&#8221;</p><p>The of Muncie, Ind. native has coached football at the elite college and high school levels since 1981. He served as head football coach at Georgetown University from 2007-13, and the Patriot League acknowledged his coaching talents when it named him the 2011 Patriot League Coach of the Year; he also was an Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Finalist in 2011. In 2013 five of his players received All-Patriot League honors. This followed a successful 2012 season, in which six of his student-athletes earned league honors.</p><p>Prior to coaching at Georgetown, Kelly served as the special teams coordinator and linebacker coach at the U.S. Naval Academy from 2002-05, where he helped lead the Midshipmen to three bowl games and a 26-11 record in his last three years there. He also has held successful coaching positions at Marshall, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Northeastern, Bowdoin, Tulane and Southern Connecticut State. He began his football-coaching career in public and independent schools at Longmeadow High School and The Fieldston School. Most recently he served as defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach at Ball State.</p><p>Kelly has the depth of experience, talent, passion and understanding of the importance of creating an effective balance between academic excellence and athletic prowess needed to continue Sem&#8217;s storied football program, Rea said. The school first fielded a football team in 1884 and has produced many successful college and notable professional football athletes.</p><p>&#8220;My wife and I are looking forward to enjoying excellent opportunities to interact with and mentor students in an academic and residential environment and we are very excited to be joining the Sem family,&#8221; said Kelly. &#8220;I am just as excited about working with the tight-knit group of staff and faculty, some of whom I was fortunate to have met during the interview process. I also am looking forward to continuing to build a football program that the entire Wyoming Seminary family will be proud of. I feel I have a lot to offer Sem and Sem has a lot to offer me.&#8221;</p><p>He has been named to the post following the departure of Sem head coach Jeff Hollway, who recently was named head football coach and assistant director of athletics at The Hill School, Pottstown.</p><style>
