Two from Bronx charged with drug charges after search at local hotel

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; What started out as traffic stop for equipment issues resulted in a man being charged with possession of marijuana.</p><p>Sometime on Sunday, police were in the area of Coal and Meade streets when they allegedly saw a vehicle drive by with equipment issues. Police allege that the vehicle, driven by Joseph Matthews, 20, of Wilkes-Barre, had its exhaust hanging in the center of the vehicle, tinted windows and a broken rear side taillight that was covered up with tape.</p><p>Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of the Coal Street Park, and determined that the vehicle&#8217;s registration was expired.</p><p>Police also alleged that an odor of marijuana could be detected throughout the vehicle. Matthews also allegedly told police that he may have smoked in the vehicle previously.</p><p>A consent search was obtained, and police said that a suspected blunt-style marijuana cigarette butt was found in the vehicle&#8217;s ash tray. Police also allegedly found packages and wrappers of cigars commonly used to roll marijuana.</p><p>Matthews is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection.</p><style>
