PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man who said he was adjusting a gun he kept in his underwear when it fired, killing one of his friends, has been sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in jail. Twenty-year-old Eietyoung (EET'-yung) Kemp of Pittsburgh was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty in Allegheny County to involuntary manslaughter, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment and evidence-tampering. Police say Kemp told them he was riding to a party with friends in August and was adjusting the gun in the back seat when it discharged, and the bullet went through the front seat and killed 19-year-old Robert Alston. Police say Kemp told them he panicked, ran away and threw the gun in the Allegheny River, but later surrendered to police.
