INDIANA, Pa. (AP) — Police have charged a man and two women in the deaths of two men who tried to rob an Indiana University of Pennsylvania student of marijuana at his off-campus apartment. George Exum, 21, a senior kinesiology major at the state-owned school, was the drug dealer targeted — and also the shooter who killed the robbers, Indiana borough police said in court papers. The dead men are identified as Shawn Richardson, of Wilkinsburg, and another man known only to police as "Menace." Police say Richardson and Menace went with three women to Exum's apartment late Tuesday. Two of those women, Catherine Hullenbaugh, of Clarksburg, and Consetta Menta, 28, of Aliquippa, are charged with conspiracy in the robbery — but also with the death of their alleged co-conspirators. In Pennsylvania, a person who commits a crime with someone can be charged with the death of someone else killed during that crime. Police contend Hullenbaugh told them the group went to Exum's apartment knowing that Richardson and Menace planned to rob Exum. Exum told police he shot at the men when they used a tire iron to assault and try to rob him. Hullenbaugh told police Richardson ran from the apartment with a neck wound and was driven to a hospital where he died. When police responded they found the man known as Menace dead in Exum's apartment. The third woman who accompanied the others to Exum's apartment has not been charged. Online court records don't list an attorney for the suspects, who are jailed without bond pending a preliminary hearing June 10. The women are each charged with homicide and robbery; Exum is charged with homicide, aggravated assault and robbery. Exum is from Norristown in eastern Pennsylvania. The apartment complex where he lived is near the university but not affiliated with it, said university spokeswoman Michelle Fryling. None of the others involved were students at IUP, which is about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
