<p>KINGSTON &#8212; When WVIA Public Media&#8217;s Kris Hendrickson set out to shoot footage Wednesday for &#8220;Our Town Kingston,&#8221; he originally intended to drive from spot to spot.</p><p>But when he got out of his car, he simply walked through the town, interacting with residents and taking note of local landmarks.</p><p>Hendrickson, of Forty Fort, said as he made his way through town, his eyes were drawn to areas he had never seen before.</p><p>&#8220;This is a walking town,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There&#8217;s a two-mile stretch filled with activity.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Becoming a tradition</strong></p><p>Neil Prisco, WVIA promotions director, said the series, which had its beginnings in 2009, is based on a sister station&#8217;s series in State College.</p><p>&#8220;This isn&#8217;t a film that we help people make,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is a film made by area residents with our help.&#8221;</p><p>Prisco said each &#8220;Our Town&#8221; has its own personality and character.</p><p>&#8220;Some focus more on business, some on history,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But all are unique efforts reflecting the personality of each town.&#8221;</p><p>Hendrickson said many Kingston residents shared stories about neighborhood schools previous to the establishment of Wyoming Valley West Middle School.</p><p>During the process of making the video, many residents offered information about &#8220;the old Kingston High School&#8221; and West Side Central Catholic High School before they closed in the late 1960s.</p><p>Other residents volunteered still photos, family albums and DVDs.</p><p>Prisco said beyond every image, there is a story.</p><p>&#8220;I call those stories &#8216;gems&#8217;,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They reflect the personality of each community.&#8221;</p><p><strong>In the home stretch </strong></p><p>As Prisco and Hendrickson work to finish the filming that will serve as the backdrop for the project, their excitement is palpable.</p><p>That excitement has grown from the first meeting of Kingston residents at the Kingston fire house, a whiteboard meeting at which residents discussed what landmarks, events and stories they thought the program should explore to recording interviews in which they told stories about their hometown.</p><p>Now in the home stretch, the &#8220;Our Town&#8221; team is looking forward to spending an afternoon with participants and friends at the studio celebrating Kingston, its past and its future.</p><p>&#8220;Many residents really want to focus on future happenings,&#8221; said Hendrickson. &#8220;In Kingston, that included the opening of a refurbished community pool this summer.&#8221;</p><p>Both Hendrickson and Prisco credit producer Lisa Mazzarella with making the project a reality.</p><p>&#8220;She just brings the whole thing together and she&#8217;s the perfect person to do it,&#8221; Prisco said. &#8220;She has the ability to draw people out and is truly interested in the stories of residents in local communities.&#8221;</p><p>He said her work as host of the station&#8217;s early morning classical music show dovetails perfectly with her creative efforts on the &#8220;Our Town&#8221; series.</p><p>Prisco said the efforts of each of 26 &#8220;Our Towns&#8221; that have been produced by WVIA have been consistent with the station&#8217;s mission for the project, &#8220;Your Vision, Your Voice.&#8221;</p><style>
