HUGHESTOWN &#8212; After two errors in the opening inning, Pittston Area coach Vito Quaglia was less than thrilled with the way his team was reacting in its first round playoff game.&#8220;You can&#8217;t take any team lightly,&#8221; he said.The dust was knocked off within the next inning.Mindina Lieback hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the second inning and Lexi Felinski&#8217;s RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth propelled No. 6 Pittston Area to a 10-0 win over No. 11 West Scranton in the PIAA District 2 Class 3A first round softball game Monday in Hughestown.&#8220;When he gets on us, that&#8217;s when we know we have to regroup,&#8221; Lieback said. &#8220;We can&#8217;t let those little things bother us.&#8221;Pittston Area moves on and will play North Pocono, an 8-4 winner over Honesdale, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Pocono in a Class 3A quarterfinal game.Pittston Area&#8217;s Taylor Baloga threw five innings of shut out softball. She allowed just two hits and didn&#8217;t walk a West Scranton batter. Early on, however, Pittston Area&#8217;s defense wasn&#8217;t as sharp as Quaglia would have liked.Thanks to a pair of errors, the Invaders put two runners on with no outs in the top of the first. The Patriots were able to easily get out of the inning with a double play. Quaglia was less than impressed.&#8220;They can play,&#8221; Quaglia said of the Invaders. &#8220;At this point in the season, everyone can play. I wanted to make sure we didn&#8217;t look past anyone.&#8221;The Patriots would come back to open the scoring in the bottom of the frame when Lexi Felinski scored on a Baloga fielder&#8217;s choice. Felinski led off the game with a double to left center.The runs really came out in the bottom of the second, all with two outs.Abbey Bradigan started the inning with a single to the right side. Taryn Ashby then reached on an illegal pitch to put runners on first and second. West Scranton got a strikeout and then Julie Silinski sacrificed the two runners over. With two outs, Felinski walked to set the stage for Lieback.Lieback drilled a liner to the right field gap and center fielder Ashley Sedelnick&#8217;s diving attempt came up short. Lieback raced around the bases and scored without a throw.&#8220;The bases were loaded and in that situation I thought I would go to the gap,&#8221; Lieback said. &#8220;She threw it outside and I just took it.&#8221;Cencetti and Bradigan then singled to lead off the fifth. Ashby drove in Cencetti with a double. Miranda Romanofski&#8217;s RBI-single to right and Silinski&#8217;s RBI groundout made it 9-0. Felinski&#8217;s single gave the Patriots the win in game-ending fashion.Baloga wasn&#8217;t in any trouble after the first inning.
