ASHLEY &#8212; After much discussion at Tuesday&#8217;s meeting on the pros and cons of the borough becoming a member of the proposed South Valley Council of Governments, the council voted to table a resolution to join until more information is gathered.If Ashley were to become a member, it would join Nanticoke, Hanover Township, Sugar Notch, Warrior Run, Plymouth Township and Newport Township.Several members of council and the audience voiced concerns about sharing road equipment with the other municipalities and maintenance costs of the equipment as part of the COG. Borough Manager Greg Gulick explained that grants would be used to purchase shared equipment and each municipality would share in the cost of repairs and maintenance. He pointed out that until the COG is established and grant monies are in place, the municipalities would have to absorb these expenses.Council unanimously voted to hire David Fedorczk as the borough&#8217;s Chief of Police. Council also voted to promote Joseph McGlynn from officer to sergeant of the police department. Councilman Joe McGlynn Jr. abstained from the 5-0 vote to promote his son.Council also voted 4-0-2 to award a bid to demolish an old factory on Mary Street to Shea Industries of Clark Summit, the lowest bidder in the amount of $47, 785. Council members Donald Sipple, Joseph Gorham, Sharon Keefe and McGlynn voted to award the bid. Gerald Maldanado and Frank Sorokach abstained, both stating that the money should be used to demolish two main Street properties instead.
