<p>PLAINS TWP. &#8212; Eddie&#8217;s Diner on Fox Hill Road, a local favorite for over 30 years, closed its doors on Sunday, but owners and staff are hoping it will reopen again before the end of summer.</p><p>Owner Ed Biniek Sr. posted on Facebook on Wednesday: &#8220;Due to my unexpected illness, Eddie&#8217;s Place will be closing on Sunday and will reopen at the end of August, 2016. Thank you for your continued support.&#8221;</p><p>As word spread of the temporary closing, many locals made their way to the diner for one last meal at the eatery for a while.</p><p>The diner, which was open 24 hours a day, was the favorite of many, from gamblers on their way home from the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino to those who had eaten at the diner since they were children.</p><p>Giacomo Simonelli and Patty Wallace, who enjoyed breakfast there on Sunday morning, said they came out to the restaurant throughout the year.</p><p>Both said their favorite menu item was soup.</p><p>&#8220;They have at least three different kinds of soup here a day,&#8221; said Wallace. &#8220;In the winter, we either come here to eat or we get soup to take out.&#8221;</p><p>Vegetable and chicken noodle, she said, were favorites.</p><p>Simonelli, who hails from Italy, said the eatery&#8217;s offerings are second to none.</p><p>&#8220;I can eat hamburgers here because they&#8217;re so lean,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And they&#8217;re delicious.&#8221;</p><p>Wallace said the restaurant&#8217;s platters are as good as homemade, with such traditional favorites as southern fried chicken and homemade meatloaf providing a bit of comfort at the end of a long day.</p><p>French fries are served plain, or with gravy or with cheese and gravy &#8212; a local favorite. Hot sandwiches come in a choice of roast beef, roast pork, roast turkey and baked ham.</p><p>Staff said they are always willing to &#8220;go all out&#8221; for the customers, many of whom had been coming to the diner for decades.</p><p>&#8220;You can tell the staff here are treated well,&#8221; said Wallace. &#8220;And that translates into them treating the customers with great respect.&#8221;</p><p>More than 100 Facebook posts made it clear not only that customers would miss the food, but that they also are concerned about the diner&#8217;s owner.</p><p>Many posts read &#8220;Get well soon, Ed.&#8221;</p><p>A final post from the diner shortly before it closed states: &#8220;As we enter our last hour of business before our two-month close, we would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have received. Our guests, especially our regulars, mean so much to us, and we are glad we mean so much to them.</p><p>&#8220;We will be hard at work making the old diner shine for our reopening, and we&#8217;ll be so excited to see you all.&#8221;</p><style>
