<p>The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed goaltender Casey DeSmith on Monday to an AHL deal for the 2016-17 season.</p><p>DeSmith returns to the Penguins organization after an impressive showing between the pipes as a rookie in the Calder Cup Playoffs with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The University of New Hampshire product posted a .919 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average in nine postseason contests, and set the club&#8217;s all-time record for saves in a single playoff game by turning aside 59 shots in a series-clinching win against the Providence Bruins on Apr. 23, 2016.</p><p>During the regular season, the Rochester, N.H. native played in six games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and put up a .925 save percentage, 1.94 goals against average and 2-2-0-0 record. DeSmith earned his first AHL win in his first career start on Jan. 3, 2016 at Hartford.</p><p>DeSmith, 24, also appeared in 13 games with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) last year. The rookie posted a 2.55 goals against average, .915 save percentage, and a 5-2-0-2 record in that time.</p><p>A combined stat line of DeSmith&#8217;s regular season and playoff figures from his rookie season comes out with a .918 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average in 28 total games.</p><style>
