DORRANCE TWP. &#8212; A year ago, most of these Mountain Top all-stars fell just short of a district championship. Now older and perhaps better, they made sure they would get another crack at one.Mountain Top jumped out quickly against Hanover and ended the game early, posting a 12-0 victory in four innings in a District 16 10-11 Baseball semifinal game.&#8220;It&#8217;s been a thrill,&#8221; Hanover manager Al Martinez said. &#8220;We won two games and made it to the semifinals as a three seed. That&#8217;s what they have to remember about it instead of thinking about the sour note with that last loss.&#8221;Mountain Top moves to Friday&#8217;s championship game where it will play at 7:30 p.m. against either Plains or South Wilkes-Barre. Those teams were scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, but a rain delay in a state softball game at the Plains Little League pushed the starting time back.Mountain Top has nine boys on the 10-11 team who lost in the D16 9-10 championship game in 2015. One of them was pitcher Trevor Dean.Dean made sure his team would have a shot at a title Friday with a superb performance on the mound. He retired the first eight batters &#8212; six via strikeouts &#8212; before having his perfect game broken up in the third when he hit Hanover&#8217;s Chris Romanelli with a pitch. Brandon Smith followed and reach on an error, but Dean then recorded his seventh strikeout to end the threat.&#8220;He was a tremendous player last year,&#8221; Mountain Top manager George Schwartz said. &#8220;But honestly, the way he&#8217;s thrown as good as he was you can see he put the work in. He&#8217;s just been great. I can&#8217;t ask for anything more. He&#8217;s hitting his spots, he&#8217;s changing speeds. I think he&#8217;s throwing at his top level.&#8221;Dean will be available Friday as well. Despite the no-hitter, he was pulled after 35 pitches to keep him eligible for the championship game. Plus, Mountain Top led 12-0 when he departed.Mountain Top reliever Ryan Covelens gave up a clean single up the middle to Hanover&#8217;s Collin Klein to start the fourth. But he came back with a couple strikeouts to give Mountain Top a chance to defend its 10-11 crown.Mountain Top&#8217;s bats made noise early. Grant Rose led off the game with a single to center and Nick Miscavage then reached on an error. Covelens walked to load the bases before Dean sliced a two-run single to right.Covelens scored on Aiden Verdekal&#8217;s groundout, and Dean scored on an error to make it 4-0.An RBI single by Connor Murtha and an RBI double by Owen Blazick highlighted a six-run second inning. The two along with Rose scored on wild pitches.Covelens added a two-run double in third for Mountain Top&#8217;s final runs. The hit into the left-center gap scored Rose and Miscavage, both of whom singled to start the third.&#8220;I love the depth of our team. I think we hit from top to bottom,&#8221; Schwartz said. &#8220;Obivously, Ryan Covelens, that kid has been lights out. He has three home runs. Aiden Verdekal had a couple of home runs. So they&#8217;ve provided some power, but with the rest of the kids it doesn&#8217;t matter.
