WVC Boys Soccer: Wyoming Valley West puts away Crestwood early in win

Battle of Knights to decide the WVC golf title

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Five different Royals scored goals in the first half Tuesday as Holy Redeemer defeated Hanover Area 5-0 to remain alone in first place in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 field hockey standings.</p><p>Kayla Kruk and Abby Shorts led the way with a goal and assist each. Madison Zulenski, McKenna Dolan and Emily Easton also found the net for the Royals, who moved to 6-0 on the season and extended their division lead to 1 1/2 games over 4-1 Meyers. Those two teams will meet Friday.</p><p>Hanover Area remained in third place, while falling to 3-2 in league play.</p><p><strong>GIRLS SOCCER</strong></p><p><strong>Crestwood 2, Wyoming Valley West 0</strong></p><p>Lexi Gaetano scored in the first half and Vanessa Atie added an insurance goal in the second to pace the Comets to victory.</p><p>Cortney Dushanko saved five shots to preserve Crestwood&#8217;s shutout.</p><p><strong>GIRLS VOLLEYBALL</strong></p><p><strong>Delaware Valley 3, Wyoming Valley West 0</strong></p><p>Kristin Volavaka served 20 points and Hannah Gallagher, Tara Sayler and Brook Williams combined for 19 kills as Delaware Valley commanded a 25-20, 25-16, 25-7 victory.</p><p>Volavaka also finished with 26 assists and served 10 aces. Sayles made six kills and served six points and Williams also had six kills with four points from the service line. Gallagher finished with seven kills and 15 service points, inluding six aces.</p><p>Gracie Giza led the Spartans with 10 kolls and five blocks, while Tessa Johns had 11 assists and Madison Michak had six service points and five digs.</p><p><strong>Crestwood 3, Meyers 0</strong></p><p>Ally Olzsyk had 16 assists and served 17 points, leading the Comets to a 25-17, 20-8, 26-18 victory.</p><p>Olzsyk finished with nine aces from the service line, while Kristen Kania served 14 points. Maria Ellis had eight aces among her nine service points and Emily VanFossen served eight points with four aces in the victory.</p><p>Ezra Perez finished with eight services points and seven digs for Meyers.</p><p><strong>Lake-Lehman 3, Wyoming Area 1</strong></p><p>Mackenzie Barker pounded down eight kills and Devin Lindley served seven aces, sparking the Black Knights to a 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23 victory.</p><p>Barker also added six digs and six blocks in the win, while Lindley finished wiht five digs. Hailey Kubiski added three kills and four digs for Lehman.</p><p>Hunter Chervenitski finished wiht nine kills and six digs for the Warriors, who also received 10 assists and eight digs from Jenna Chackan and 12 digs and six service points from Liv Astolfi. Brandi Sorokin served six points and made three kills for Wyoming Area.</p><p><strong>Hazleton Area 3, Dallas 2</strong></p><p>Cindy Gutierrez had 18 assists and 11 kills as the Cougars fought back for a 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-10 victory.</p><p>Gutierrez also served 15 points in the win, while Rosie Tineo had 25 digs, nine kills and 10 service points.
