New York man who shot woman in back pleads guilty

<p>SCRANTON &#8212; Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center is teaming up with various manufacturers to celebrate the Fourth Annual Manufacturing Day on Friday.</p><p>NEPIRC is coordinating a conference, which is considered a &#8220;hybrid conference and trade show,&#8221; at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton.</p><p>According to Eric Esoda, CEO and president of NEPIRC, the day is part of a national effort to change the perception of today&#8217;s manufacturing industry.</p><p>&#8220;They (companies) aren&#8217;t seeing enthusiasm (of applicants) because of misconceptions of manufacturing,&#8221; Esoda said. &#8220;Manufacturing is the second/third largest industry in the region.&#8221;</p><p>Manufacturers participating in the day include Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP, Flontech USA and Bank of America.</p><p>According to a news release, time has been incorporated into the agenda for participants to visit manufacturer tables, network, learn about what each other has to offer and help facilitate synergies, purchasing opportunities and collaborations among Pennsylvania manufacturers.</p><p>&#8220;We want them to network among each other,&#8221; Esoda said noting that businesses aren&#8217;t aware of local manufacturing that can be used in supply chains.</p><p>A survey done by Deloitte of 2015 manufacturing day participants said that 62 percent of participants were more motivated to pursue a career in manufacturing after attending the day last year.</p><p>Manufacturing Day is the first Friday in the month of October.</p><p>Esoda said there are 2,400 events nationwide &#8220;that introduce communities, families to what manufacturing is all about.&#8221;</p><p>The keynote address will be on cyber security for businesses, given by Jeff M. Krull, a partner at Baker Tilly for almost five years.</p><p>NEPIRC is expecting more than 125 people at the conference.</p><p>The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and breakfast and end at 1:30 p.m.</p><p>To sign up for the day, visit www.nepric.com/events or call Colleen Reardon, NEPIRC&#8217;s events/marketing manager, at (570) 704-0018.</p><style>
