Crestwood gets back on track by running all over Tunkhannock

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Six plays into the game and Coughlin had already scored two touchdowns.</p><p>Yeah, it was that kind of game for Meyers as the two Wilkes-Barre city schools who will eventually merge into one renewed their rivalry after a seven-year hiatus.</p><p>Running back Jake Cole and quarterback Vincent Todd had the most fun as the duo had their hands in four of five first-half touchdowns as Coughlin defeated Meyers 40-0 in a Wyoming Valley Conference interdivisional game.</p><p>&#8220;They beat us up up front,&#8221; said Meyers coach Jeff Labatch, whose team fell to 4-3. &#8220;They are a good team and well-coached. They outperformed us in every facet of the game tonight.&#8221;</p><p>Cole finished with 164 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. He also set up Coughlin&#8217;s second score with a 54-yard interception return to the Meyers 2-yard line. Todd rushed eight times for 109 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yard scoring run on the game&#8217;s third play. He also threw a 41-yard TD pass to Melvin Robinson on his first passing attempt of the season.</p><p>Cole and Todd were so dominant as Coughlin (4-3) built a 33-0 halftime lead that they made cameo appearances in the second half. Cole had just one rush over the final two quarters. Todd had none.</p><p>&#8220;I threw one last season,&#8221; said Todd, who has also played receiver and running back this year. &#8220;That one meant a whole lot more. I didn&#8217;t know it would end up like that. He led me on, I threw it and he scored.&#8221;</p><p>Big plays were a staple of Meyers coming in. The Mohawks had nine scoring plays of 50 or more yards through their first four games. Their longest plays from scrimmage on Friday, while the Coughlin starting defense was on the field were a 19-yard run and a 19-yard pass.</p><p>&#8220;It was mostly getting off blocks,&#8221; Cole said. &#8220;We got off blocks well. I think we were faster and more physical throughout the game. Never let up. We did our job. Everyone did their job.&#8221;</p><p>Meyers entered the red zone once all game. But after getting to the Coughlin 11 mainly via the running of quarterback Janssen Wilborn, the Mohawks were pushed back a bit and a 33-yard field goal banged off the left upright.</p><p>The missed opportunity continued a painful trend for Meyers. The Mohawks haven&#8217;t scored in the first quarter all season and have been shut out in the first half five times.</p><p>&#8220;I thought we played an all-around great game,&#8221; Coughlin coach Ciro Cinti said. &#8220;The line played a great game. They played together. Jake Cole is starting to come into his own, but the O-line did a really nice job. Again, Jake Cole had an outstanding game along with Vincent Todd.</p><p>&#8220;Like I said before. We wanted to get a four-quarter game and today was a four-quarter game.&#8221;</p><p>The second half didn&#8217;t pack the same zing until late in the game when backup running back Jared Kline raced around right end for a 44-yard TD run on his second carry of the season.</p><p>The win knotted the series at 32-32-1. Coughlin won the last meeting of the teams 24-3 in 2009.
