<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The new year will mark a new venture for FOX 56 WOLF-TV in Wilkes-Barre, as the company launches its own news operation on Jan. 1.</p><p>Dawn Miller, FOX news manager, said the area&#8217;s FOX affiliate decided to produce its own local news, ending years of affiliation with WBRE and WNEP.</p><p>FOX is now owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group and having a local news operation will be beneficial to the company, Miller said.</p><p>&#8220;First of all, it will be cost-effective,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And it&#8217;s the trend these days &#8212; more companies are doing this.&#8221;</p><p>Miller, who joined FOX in November after having been an executive producer at WBRE-TV, said having a news operation will give the station its own identity in the market.</p><p>&#8220;We will now have our own voice, our own crew, and we will offer another outlet for news for the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;And viewers will be able to watch a unique news product, completely separate from the other news in the area.&#8221;</p><p>Miller, a native of Shamokin and a graduate of King&#8217;s College, said she has worked in the local media market her entire career. She lives in Dallas.</p><p>Most recently, FOX has been in a news agreement with Nexstar Broadcasting, which has been producing the 10 p.m. news that airs on FOX/WOLF-TV. &#8220;This venture provides an opportunity for Sinclair to be able to provide news for our viewers,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;And we have the facility &#8212; two control rooms and two studios &#8212; to accommodate and produce it.&#8221;</p><p>FOX will cover the same geographic areas as WBRE and WNEP, consisting of some 17 counties in northeastern and central Pennsylvania. The news staff will concentrate heavily on the metropolitan areas of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, but also cover news in outlying areas.</p><p>Advertisers expressed excitement when told of the new venture, Miller said. The current sports team of Erin Dugan and Bob Ide will continue to provide features and packages of area teams and events, she said. With FOX airing the Super Bowl in February, she said, the local sports team will play a role in providing local coverage of that event.</p><p>The FOX local news will air seven days a week at 10 p.m., Miller said. The main news anchor will be Dayne Marae, who will be stationed in South Bend, Ind. The team of reporters and a meteorologist will work out of the Wilkes-Barre facility. Already hired as reporters are Alex Belser, Brian Sheehan, Jade Jarvis and Katie Berlin. News photographer will be John Guziewicz.</p><p>&#8220;This will be the beginning of great things to come for news coverage in northeastern and central Pennsylvania,&#8221; Miller said. &#8220;Our team looks forward to working with you.&#8221;</p><style>
