<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The latest service to be offered at Harrold&#8217;s Pharmacy will be a relief to many customers.</p><p>Arch Comfort, specializing in diabetic and corrective footwear, moved from its location on Market Street in Kingston to inside the pharmacy on Old River Road in South Wilkes-Barre earlier this month.</p><p>Owners Ivan and Cheri Davidowitz, both certified pedorathists, said the new location will provide more visibility and give the business a chance to expand its service by accepting more kinds of insurances as part of Harrold&#8217;s Pharmacy.</p><p>&#8220;Now we can offer our services to more people,&#8221; said Ivan Davidowitz.</p><p>The service includes personalized fittings for braces and orthotics, a shoe lab for in-house modifications, a selection of name-brand orthopedic footwear and other therapeutic products.</p><p>Cheri Davidowitz said the pharmacy setting also allows his staff to educate customers. She recalled a recent experience in which a customer picking up a prescription told a pharmacist about some foot issues she&#8217;d been experiencing. The pharmacist directed her to Arch Comfort.</p><p>&#8220;She was able to walk out of here, out of pain,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Arch Comfort has a fitting room in the facility in which the staff can perform foot exams and create casts for custom shoes.</p><p>In addition to working out of the pharmacy, the staff of Arch Comfort travels to nursing homes and works with home health agencies throughout the area to make house calls for those who can&#8217;t travel.</p><p>Cheri Davidowitz said a growing aspect of the business includes working with sports rehabilitation centers to help athletes heal from injuries with the use of braces and orthotics. The business also offers gait analysis for runners.</p><p>Ivan Davidowitz said the most important aspect of the business is diabetic footwear. Luzerne County&#8217;s population has a higher incidence of diabetes at 11.7 percent than the national average, which is 9.3 percent, according to the state Department of Health.</p><p>&#8220;Not only is it an insulin problem, but it&#8217;s a circulation problem,&#8221; said Ivan Davidowitz.</p><p>In addition to Arch Comfort, Dr. Joseph Anistranski, of InterMountain Medical Group, moved his office into the facility in August.</p><p>Renita Fennick, director of communications for Commonwealth Health, said Anistranski&#8217;s office was relocating from its Carey Avenue, Hanover Township, location and was looking for a spot in the area.</p><p>&#8220;The parking (at Harrold&#8217;s Pharmacy) is good and it&#8217;s convenient for patients, as they can get their prescription right next door,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a beautiful building.&#8221;</p><p>Ivan Davidowitz believes that so many services under one roof makes Harrold&#8217;s Pharmacy a unique attraction in the area.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s like a health and wellness destination,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a one-stop shop.&#8221;</p><p>Harrold&#8217;s Pharmacy moved down the road from its previous facility in 2013, to what was once the Old River Road Bakery. The 22,000-square-foot building was purchased for $50,000 and underwent a renovation costing between $3 million and $4 million.</p><p>The pharmacy is known for its family ownership and array of services, such as compounding, in which medicines are custom-made for patients, and home infusion, in which the pharmacy works in conjunction with home health agencies to offer intravenous therapy in a patient&#8217;s home.</p><p>The pharmacy also has a fleet of 10 vehicles that will deliver medications to patients living anywhere from Hazleton to Clarks Summit, free of charge.</p><p>In growing its services and facilities, third-generation pharmacist and owner Bruce Lefkowitz said the 70-year-old business&#8217; focus is always to remain customer-centered. That idea led to Lefkowitz creating a private vaccine room for patients. He also offers vaccines and preventative programs like cholesterol screenings and smoking cessation seminars at local businesses.</p><p>&#8220;Wellness goes beyond the pharmacy,&#8221; he said.</p><p>The move also allowed Lefkowitz to purchase a ScriptPro automated prescription-filling robot, which is loaded with the 200 most common medications. It counts pills, fills medication bottles and labels prescriptions, which Lefkowitz said allows his staff to focus more on patient care.</p><p>For example, the pharmacy recently began offering a free pill box program in which staff members sort and organize a patient&#8217;s medications into a four-week pill box to make life a little easier for those with multiple prescriptions.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;d rather (a staff member) focus on that, making sure that&#8217;s right, than on counting pills,&#8221; Lefkowitz said of the benefits of using the ScriptPro machine.</p><style>
