Wyoming Valley churches, civic groups to hold Lenten dinners starting March 1

<p>UGI Penn Natural Gas (UGI) announced Tuesday its purchased gas cost rates will increase Wednesday, March 1. As a result, the average residential heating customer&#8217;s bill will rise by 2.9 percent.</p><p>This gas cost increase means an average residential heating bill will rise from $78.25 per month to $80.50 per month.</p><p>&#8220;UGI customers continue to enjoy value in their energy choice,&#8221; Paul Szykman, UGI&#8217;s vice president of rates, said in a statement. &#8220;Even with this increase, UGI&#8217;s residential heating bills remain significantly lower than in the recent past, thanks to locally produced shale gas. Shale gas currently makes up approximately 90 percent of UGI&#8217;s natural gas supply.&#8221;</p><p>By law, utilities are required to pass the cost of the natural gas they purchase directly through to customers without any markup.</p><p>For those having trouble paying their energy bill, UGI&#8217;s free budget billing program is available, which spreads bills out over a 12-month period.</p><p>Customers with a limited or fixed income should call UGI at 1-800-UGI-WARM (1-800-844-9267) to determine if they are eligible for one of several energy assistance programs. Any customer who is behind on their gas bills should contact the utility as soon as possible to discuss a payment arrangement.</p><p>Information about energy usage and home improvements that increase energy efficiency can be found at <a href="http://www.ugi.com" target="_blank">www.ugi.com</a>.</p><style>
