Sherman Hills shooter gets up to a decade behind bars

<p>PITTSTON &#8212; A man accused of <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/630273/man-charged-with-raping-child-allegedly-bribed-victim-with-snacks" target="_blank">raping a child &#8212; using snacks as bribes for sex &#8212; </a> is now facing trial.</p><p>Christopher McCauley, 41, appeared before District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.</p><p>McCauley waived the hearing, sending these charges to county court: rape of a child, indecent assault on a person under age 13, indecent exposure and corruption of minors.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center personnel notified police Jan. 25 about possible child abuse. A doctor told police he released the victim, but had advised Children and Youth Services about the matter.</p><p>Shortly after midnight Jan. 26, the grandmother of the victim advised Duryea police she had information about the abuse. When police arrived at a Main Street residence, the grandmother told officers the victim confided that &#8220;in order to get snacks,&#8221; the child would have sex with McCauley.</p><p>Authorities confirmed the incidents occurred only in Duryea over the past year.</p><p>McCauley is scheduled for a formal arraignment at 10 a.m. June 1 in the Luzerne County Courthouse. He remains jailed for lack of $100,000.</p><style>
