How does West Chester baseball coach Jad Prachniak spell relief? It&#8217;s M-c-C-l-a-i-n.Senior Josh McClain is the top arm in the 14-5 Golden Rams&#8217; bullpen, and the 6-foot-4, 230-pound right-hander proved that point in the team&#8217;s last five games.The Tunkhannock grad picked up a save in a 6-4 victory over Wayne State on March 15. He followed that up by collecting victories out of the pen in a 10-6 triumph over Philadelphia on March 21 and getting the win in 4-3 and 4-1 PSAC victories over East Stroudsburg on March 24 and 25.But McClain&#8217;s top effort thus far came in a 2-1 eight-inning league victory over Shippensburg on Sunday. He came in and worked 3.1 innings and gave up three hits and no runs with no walks and two strikeouts to get the victory.&#8220;Josh was tremendous last season coming out of the bullpen and pitching in high pressure situations throughout the season,&#8221; Prachniak said. &#8220;He has continued that success this season, getting critical outs with the game in the balance.&#8221;The coach feels that McClain has the perfect skill set to be an elite reliever.&#8220;Josh has command of good stuff, with a fastball that touches 90 miles an hour and quality secondary pitches,&#8221; Prachniak said. &#8220;He is able to pitch frequently because his arm bounces back well and he is able to maintain his stuff in extended outings. Most importantly, he thrives in the biggest moments when the game is on the line.&#8221;McClain has a 2.12 ERA in eight games. In 17 innings, he&#8217;s given up 18 hits and six runs, four earned, with seven walks and 18 strikeouts. He was at Northampton Community College for two years and joined the Golden Rams last season, going 1-0 with eight saves in 23 games.Jendrzejewski honoredLebanon Valley senior captain Olivia Jendrzejewski was named Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track &amp; Field Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year on March 29. It is considered the MAC&#8217;s highest individual honor and she will receive the award at the MAC&#8217;s annual year-end banquet in May.&#8220;Olivia is a very diligent student and athlete and she is very deserving of this recognition,&#8221; coach Melissa Byler told the media when the award was announced. &#8220;I am always impressed at how she can balance her academic load (majoring in physical therapy) and her athletic success.&#8221;The Hanover Area grad celebrated her honor by winning the triple jump with a school-record effort of 37 feet, 5 inches at the Millersville Metrics last Saturday. That broke her previous record of 37-4 and earned her a spot in the ECAC Division III Championships. She also finished second in the 100 hurdles in 15.52.Rome tops the nationWilliam &amp; Mary junior All-American Regan Rome captured the 10,000-meter run at the Colonial Relays last weekend in Williamsburg, Va.Though it was her first attempt at the event, her time of 33:36.19 was not only the fastest time in the collegiate ranks but first among all runners, including professionals.On March 18, the Dallas grad captured the mile run with a time of 4:49.71 and that, too, is the best time to date in Division I.Rome competed in the 5,000 meter run at last year&#8217;s Colonial Relays and was an easy winner. Her 10k time is third all-time at William &amp; Mary and her mile time ranks eighth.Alguire stars in javelinSusquehanna senior Gabrielle Alguire was named Landmark Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week after finishing third in the javelin throw against a field of mostly Division II athletes at the Millersville Metrics last Saturday.The Tunkhannock alum hit 147 feet, 10 inches. A week earlier, at Susquehanna&#8217;s Jim Taylor Invitational in Selinsgrove, she finished first out of 37 throwers with a 155-4 effort. That stands first in the country in Division III and was just four feet shy of her personal record set in the same meet two years ago.Yankosky pitching inFreshman Tyler Yankosky is starting for the 18-8 Millersville baseball team. The 6-foot-6, 205-pound right-hander, a Wyoming Valley West grad, has pitched in six games with five starts and has a 1-0 record and a 4.56 ERA.In 23.2 innings, he has given up 21 hits and 16 runs, 12 earned, with 13 walks and 24 strikeouts. He picked up his victory in an 11-4 victory over Shepherd on March 4. On March 25, he started and pitched 5.1 innings and gave up two hits and one run with two walks and five strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to Kutztown.Two wins for BalogaFreshman Taylor Baloga is 2-5 with a save pitching for the 6-18 Georgian Court softball team, but the Pittston Area grad picked up both of her victories in the past week.The 5-foot-2 right-hander worked five innings in relief in a 3-1 victory over Chestnut Hill last Wednesday, giving up two hits, no runs and striking out three.Last Monday, she started and worked 4.2 innings and gave up six hits, five runs, four earned, with three walks and two strikeouts in an 11-10 triumph over Bloomfield.Baloga has pitched in 14 games with five starts.Good start for BoichBoston College senior Fallyn Boich opened the outdoor track season by finishing seventh in a field of 16 in the javelin in the Championship Division of the Colonial Relays last weekend in rainy weather in Williamsburg, Va.The Holy Redeemer grad hit 127 feet, 4 inches, which currently stands eighth on the ACC performance list. Boich&#8217;s career best effort (144-6) came last year when she finished first in Stonehill&#8217;s Skyhawk Invitational.Bugonowicz in reliefJunior Mike Bugonowicz is 3-0 coming out of the bullpen for the Shenandoah baseball team, which is 22-1 overall and 7-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.The 6-foot-2, 260-pound right-hander, a Hanover Area grad, has worked in five games and has a 1.06 ERA. In 17 innings, he has given up 10 hits and five runs, two earned, with three walks and 12 strikeouts.On March 29, he worked 4.2 innings, giving up two hits, no runs and striking out three to get credit for a 10-3 triumph over Eastern Mennonite.<style>
