H.S. SOFTBALL: Nothing is certain as WVC teams begin quest for D2 titles

<p>MOUNTAIN TOP &#8212; As Brass Buckle executive chef Steve Foley sliced into a piece of seeded Ahi tuna that would become the centerpiece of a taco, restaurant owner Jerry Seiwell explained why he decided to once again participate in the Taste of the Mountain at the Glen Summit Clubhouse.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a no-brainer,&#8221; he said. &#8220;At the end of the day, we have the opportunity to get here, find one of the best items we have on our menu, showcase it and get to talk to people.&#8221;</p><p>The event, in its seventh year, is hosted by the Mountain Top Rotary Club and offers community members the chance to sample dishes from some of the area&#8217;s best restaurants.</p><p>Seiwell&#8217;s tuna taco is a newer addition to the restaurant&#8217;s lineup and offers something unique and not easily accessible otherwise to residents of the area. He said he got the idea to create a fish taco from living in Southern California and seeing what types of authentic cuisine the area offered.</p><p>He said the Brass Buckle, a Mexican restaurant in Conyngham, has participated in the tasting event since its inception.</p><p>About 16 restaurants and breweries participated in this year&#8217;s event, ranging from traditional Italian cuisine to savory treats and even ground coffee, Rotary Club President Michelle Reilly said. Reilly was especially excited the event returned to the Glen Summit Clubhouse this year.</p><p>&#8220;What&#8217;s different is we brought it back to where it all started,&#8221; she said of this year&#8217;s venue. &#8220;This was where it began. It&#8217;s got an intimate, romantic kind of feel to it.</p><p>&#8220;Everybody loves it.&#8221;</p><p>Reilly said she hoped close to 200 patrons would attend the event. She was already halfway to her goal shortly after opening the doors. All proceeds from the event go back into the community by assisting local libraries, police and fire departments, schools, food banks and more.</p><p>In the far right corner of the clubhouse, Kingston resident Richard Zachar had just finished his plate. It was his first time attending Taste of the Mountain.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very nice, very lovely,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s interesting to see as I&#8217;m not aware of a lot of these restaurants since I live down in Kingston, so it was nice to find out about some of them, and maybe I&#8217;ll come up and try them again.&#8221;</p><p>While guests made their way through each side of the room sampling entrees, lovers of beer and wine ventured outside as they tried to get a taste of some of the area&#8217;s newest adult beverages.</p><p>If pear-strawberry malted cider seemed too fruity, perhaps a Rushmore IPA or Bittersweet brew would be more your liking. Either way, members of Luzerne County Brewers Association had bountiful options to cleanse one&#8217;s palate as they happily offered samplings of the brews to anyone willing to try them.</p><p>At the next table over, Simply Homebrew owner Peter Aiello offered summer-themed wines. Aiello said that he enjoys working with the Rotary and participating in the event.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great way to taste and sample food from the community and surrounding area,&#8221; he said, adding that it will help grow his customer base for Simply Homebrew and Honeyhole Winery. &#8220;It&#8217;s a nice group of guys and girls in this Rotary, and it&#8217;s really hard to not want to support them.&#8221;</p><style>
