<p>Maybe your mouth is already watering for potato pancakes, or a deep-fried Oreo.</p><p>Maybe you&#8217;ve been saving your dimes to toss them in a &#8220;dime pitch.&#8221;</p><p>Maybe you know a youngster who is eager to have you take him to a &#8220;goldfish pond&#8221; where he&#8217;s sure to win a prize.</p><p>Whether you enjoy the games, the socializing, the food or the local bands, you can rest assured hundreds of volunteers at area churches and fire companies are getting ready to help you have a good time &#8212; and raise needed funds for their worthy causes.</p><p>At Holy Family Church in Sugar Notch alone, the volunteers are getting in gear to peel, grate and fry 800 pounds of potatoes for their favorite specialty.</p><p>&#8220;Although all the food items are homemade and delicious, we are most proud of our potato pancakes,&#8221; spokeswoman Mary Kay Pettinger modestly noted, adding &#8220;no preservatives are used.&#8221;</p><p>Here&#8217;s a list to help you plan which of the many bazaars, carnivals and festivals you can attend this season in and around Northeastern Pennsylvania:</p><p><strong>The sixth annual St. Jude Parish International Fest</strong>, 4 to 11 p.m. June 3 and noon to 9 p.m. June 4 in the grove on the parish grounds at 420 South Mountain Boulevard, Mountain Top. Ethnic foods from nine countries along with American favorites and desserts from around the world will be available. There will basket raffles, instant and regular bingo, kids games and activities, and a grand prize raffle of $5,000, or a &#8220;Dream Vacation&#8221; from Sea the World Travel valued at $5,000. Info, 570-574-2535.</p><p><strong>***</strong></p><p><strong>Fourth annual Edwardsville Pierogi Festival,</strong> June 9 and June 10 along Main Street, Edwardsville, with entertainment by John Stevens Doubleshot 4 to 7 p.m. June 9 and Exit Sixxx 8 to 10 p.m. June 9. On June 10 there will be a parade at 11 a.m. followed by a pierogie cookoff at 3 p.m. Cruise Control will provide live entertainment from noon to 2 p.m., Flirt&#8217;n With Yesterday from 3 to 6 p.m., Iron Cowboy from 7 to 10 p.m.</p><p>***</p><p><strong>Forty Fort United Methodist Church Annual Strawberry Festival,</strong> 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 13 in the church social hall, corner of Wyoming and Yeager avenues in Forty Fort.Tickets can be purchased at the door. Ice cream, strawberries, cake and beverages are the main attraction. Hot dogs and wimpies are also available. Info, 570-287-3840.</p><p>***</p><p><strong>Corpus Christi Parish 6th Annual Bazaar</strong><strong>, </strong>on the grounds of Immaculate Conception Church, 601 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, 6 to 10 p.m. June 23; 6 to 10 p.m. June 24; 4:30 to 10 p.m. June 25 with ethnic foods, a &#8220;gigantic flea market,&#8221; and basket raffle. Entertainment by Handsome Devils from 6 to 10 p.m. June 23; Iron Cowboy from 6 to 10 p.m. June 24 and the Sperazza Band from 6 to 10 p.m. June 25. Games of chance, Bingo and a Lucky Seven raffle will add to the excitement. Prizes include $1,000 in cash, a variety of gift cards, food and dining cards and lottery tickets. Bingo and theme baskets will add to the fun, and the menu of home-made ethnic foods includes pirohy, piggies, haluski, krepla and potato pancakes. Funnel cakes, pizza, and ice cream will also be served. Entertainment includes John Stevens&#8217; Doubleshot at 7 p.m. July 13, Sweet Pepper &amp; the Long Hots at 7 p.m. July 14 and the Hoopla Band at 7 p.m. July 15.</p><p><strong>***</strong></p><p><strong>St. Nicholas Parish Bazaar,</strong> July 13 to July 15 on the church grounds, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a large flea market, 50/50 raffle, games of chance and live entertainment. Food choices range from pizza and clams to halushki and bratwurst to tostados and tamales. Last year&#8217;s 50/50 raffle prize was more than $10,000. Info, 570-823-7736.</p><p><strong> <strong>***</strong></strong></p><p><strong>St. Robert Bellarmine Parish Bazaar at St. Aloysius Church,</strong> corner of Barney and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre, 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 3; 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5. Entertainment includes DJ Mikie Mike on Aug. 3; Tommy &amp; The Original Tones on Aug. 4 and the Sperazza Band on Aug. 5. Lots of food, games, prizes and an indoor flea market add to the event. Info, 570-823-3791 or facebook.com/bellarmine.aloysius.</p><p><strong>***</strong></p><p><strong>Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company Carnival, </strong> billed as &#8220;A Real Country AfFAIR,&#8221; Aug. 4, 5 and 6 at the carnival grounds, 613 West County Road, Wapwallopen. Homemade food items include pigs-in-the blanket, ham &amp; bean soup, chicken corn soup, fresh cut fries, and funnel cakes. Manning&#8217;s Ice Cream will be served, and you can order not just a cone but shakes, root beer floats, and cider floats. Cheese steaks, pork BBQs, chicken BBQs, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, sno cones, apple dumplings, pierogies, and deep-fried oreos round out the menu.</p><p>Competitors from several neighboring states will join in the annual Garden Tractor Pull contest, set to begin 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and continue &#8220;well into the evening.&#8221;</p><p>Special events on Aug. 6 include the Backyard Horseshoe Pitch, comprised of 64, two-partner teams, which begins at noon. Registration deadline is 11 p.m. Aug. 5.</p><p>An auction under the big tent begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 6 and offers a wide variety of prizes.</p><p>Country music band Hillbilly D&#8217;Lux will take the stage at 7 p.m. Aug. 4. Kartune will play at 7 p.m. Aug. 5. DJ Carol Jean Davis will provide music during the afternoon on Aug. 6, followed by the Tommy Guns Band, which will play from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6.</p><p>Especially for children, the Hobbie Carnival features games called Pet Shop, Piggy Race, TP (toilet paper) Toss, Goldfish Toss, Gone Hunting, Fishing, Add and Win, Soda Ring Toss and Dime Pitch.</p><p>Hours for the carnival are 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 4, 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5.
