<p><strong>Mullery launches</strong></p><p><strong>plan to tour district</strong></p><p>HARRISBURG &#8212; State Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Newport Township, launched a new constituent and community outreach service dubbed &#8220;One. 19&#8221; in White Haven on Monday. The initiative involves scheduling meetings and constituent service hours in all 19 communities Mullery represents.</p><p>On Monday, Mullery&#8217;s tour began at the White Haven Center where he met with Department of Human Services officials and center employees. The group discussed pending legislation affecting the treatment center, and Mullery answered questions from the staff.</p><p>Mullery joined White Haven Police Chief Tom Szoke for a ride-along throughout White Haven and Dennison Township. He met with Gerald Feissner to discuss progress at the Standard Farms location. In June, Standard Farms received one of the 12 medical marijuana grower licenses from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.</p><p>Mullery also visited Lehigh Gorge State Park and did a &#8220;Main Street Walking Tour,&#8221; visiting several businesses before doing constituent outreach at the White Haven Municipal Building. At the conclusion of the constituent outreach, he met with the mayor and borough council.</p><p>Constituents can contact Mullery&#8217;s office at 570-740-7031.</p><p><strong>Toohil discusses </strong></p><p><strong>workforce development</strong></p><p>HAZLETON &#8212; State Rep. Tarah Toohil, R-Butler Township, discussed workforce development initiatives to ensure that today&#8217;s student population is prepared for careers in the industrial sector at a recent Humboldt Park Association meeting.</p><p>Toohil spoke about having a greater focus on promoting job availability in Greater Hazleton and joining together with the Pennsylvania CareerLink office and regional businesses to provide students with the necessary skills they need to enter the workforce.</p><p>This fall, Toohil will host the annual Jobs For You career fair at Hazleton Area High School to give students a look at jobs that are available for those interested in directly entering the workforce after graduation. Toohil hopes the event will provide students with more educational opportunities to obtain jobs in the industrial trades and transportation sectors, such as Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and welding training.</p><p><strong>Toomey: </strong><strong>BRINK Act</strong></p><p><strong>will cut off N. Korea</strong></p><p>WASHINGTON &#8212; U.S. Senators Pat Toomey, R-Lehigh Valley, and Chris Van Hollen, D-Maryland &#8212; members of the Senate Banking Committee &#8212; have released a joint statement on the importance of including more sanctions on North Korea.</p><p>&#8220;Our response to North Korea&#8217;s recent ICBM test must be bold, decisive, and comprehensive. The Russia, Iran, and North Korea Sanctions Act falls short of the aggressive sanctions needed to sever North Korea&#8217;s ties to the international financial system and create the leverage necessary for successful nuclear negotiations. That is why we introduced the bipartisan Banking Restrictions Involving North Korea (BRINK) Act last week, which addresses key gaps in the House&#8217;s legislation.</p><p>&#8220;North Korea is on track to develop a nuclear-tipped ICBM capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. It is imperative that we use every economic weapon in our arsenal to prevent that from happening. The BRINK Act, combined with the legislation under consideration in the House, is our best chance at peacefully resolving the North Korean nuclear threat.&#8221;</p><p>North Korea has access to the international financial system through a network of Chinese-based front companies that allow it to evade international sanctions. The BRINK Act mandates a comprehensive set of sanctions on banks that do business with North Korea to cut off this access. Critically, the act also imposes severe and escalating fines on those banks, and provides an expedited opportunity for Congress to block any administration from lifting the sanctions without congressional consent, a press release says.</p><style>
