Revolutionary Encampment brings history to life at the Denison House

<p>KINGSTON &#8212; St. Ignatius of Loyola parish but no longer have a summer bazaar, but that doesn&#8217;t mean parishioners don&#8217;t have an opportunity to socialize this summer.</p><p>The church held its second annual summer social Sunday at Keeley&#8217;s Restaurant in Kingston. Raffle baskets, food, and even volleyball were some of the activities offered at the event for the parishioners.</p><p>Molly Kachmar, a member of the pastoral commission of St. Ignatius, spear-headed the event. &#8220;The community committee of the Church wanted something to bring us together now that we no longer have a bazaar,&#8221; she said.</p><p>St. Ignatius recently merged with two other local churches, St. Mary&#8217;s and St. Hedwig&#8217;s.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to build a sense of community in the church. People tend to, perhaps, just attend Mass and they don&#8217;t get to know their parishioners,&#8221; Kachmar said.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a good way to see other members of the Church outside of Mass that you wouldn&#8217;t normally see too often. We want to have a sense of community in our church and we want to get everyone involved, not just events for children or for adults, so this is an event for everyone,&#8221; she continued.</p><p>&#8220;The merger has been a positive thing for us,&#8221; said Mary Senese, a St. Ignatius parishioner.</p><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s only certain people that I know from seeing in Church, and at an event like this, you meet more people.&#8221;</p><p>Alice Hines, a 12-year member of St. Ignatius, said the church is always open to new faces walking through the doors.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a way of keeping things up with the church without bugging people for money to pay for it. People don&#8217;t mind spending money at events like this, they don&#8217;t even think about it. If you ask them for money, they take it with a different tone,&#8221; Hines said of fund collections for the church.</p><p>&#8220;Our parish is really a very welcoming parish,&#8221; Kachmar added. &#8220;We offer so many activities.&#8221;</p><style>
