<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Berwick Councilman Andrew Shecktor, who was one of the first to enter the U.S. Senate race for 2018, has suspended his bid for that office and announced he will enter the race for the 11th Congressional District House seat.</p><p>Shecktor, a Republican, will seek the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Hazleton, who he is seeking the Republican nomination in the U.S. Senate race. If successful in getting the GOP nomination, Barletta would oppose incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Casey, of Scranton, in the November 2018 general election.</p><p>In a news release, Shecktor said after much deliberation, he determined the need within the 11th District will be more critical in the upcoming election. Shecktor said he has been a longtime supporter of Barletta.</p><p>Shecktor, who was a delegate to the Republican National Convention last year, considers himself an &#8220;unapologetic constitutional conservative,&#8221; and a proud supporter of President Donald Trump,</p><p>Shecktor said he is an advocate for efficient government, support of our veterans, secure borders and human rights. He also favors health care that is truly affordable, and strongly believes the &#8220;Affordable Care Act&#8221; is a failed experiment and needs to be scrapped. He is pro-life and is a strong supporter of gun rights and freedom of speech.</p><p>Shecktor is currently a sales manager for the Solid Cactus division of Web.com. Prior to Web.com, he was an electrical engineer and information technology manager. He served as the manager of biomedical engineering at Lower Bucks Hospital for a number of years, and as a network operations center manager for GE Capital.</p><p>Shecktor is also heavily involved in the fire department, emergency services and ham radio. He has lived in Berwick since 2005.</p><p>Shecktor has also worked for several members of Congress, and was on the Congressional Computer Advisory Committee of former U.S. Rep. Jon Fox.</p><p>Dan Meuser, a former state revenue secretary, and state Rep. Steve Bloom have also announced they are running for Barletta&#8217;s seat.</p><style>
